The IFL Announces the VidSwap.com Players of the Week
Published on June 10, 2009 under Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
Richmond, VA: Week 13 saw three more teams clinch spots in the Indoor Football League's post-season, leaving only six spots left. The Lone Star Division is wide open, two more spots could be filled this week in the Pacific, and it will come down to the wire to see who gets the last spot in the Central. The three young men being honored this week showed the rest of the league that their teams will be a force to be reckoned with come playoff time. Fans can visit GoIFL.com to see the video highlights that made these young men the VidSwap.com Players of the Week.
WEEK THIRTEEN OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -QB CHRIS DIXON/BILLINGS OUTLAWS
Top teams typically always have a top signal caller behind center. Such is the case with the Billings Outlaws. Chris Dixon has been lighting up the stats sheet all year, and this week was no different against the defending UIF Champion Sioux Falls Storm. The Quarterback was 24 of 28 passing for 185 yards and seven touchdown passes. He was also able to escape the strong Storm pass rush all evening, and accumulated 53 rushing yards and another score. Come playoff time, teams are going to have to find an answer for this dual threat. This is the Quarterback's third time winning this award on the year.
WEEK THIRTEEN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -DB JUSTIN HARRISON/ BLOOMINGTON EXTREME
It takes a strong defense to shut down one of the leagues more potent offenses. Led by Defensive back Justin Harrison, the Extreme were able to hold the Wild for their eighth win of the year. Harrison was all over the field, contributing eight solo tackles, three assists, and two pass breakups. Three of his tackles resulted in losses of 15 yards for the Wild. He also added two quarterback sacks on the evening to cap off one of the better all around defensive performances of the season.
WEEK THIRTEEN SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK-DB/KR LAROCHE JACKSON/BLOOMINGTON EXTREME
When a few plays are the difference between a win and a loss, it is often the efforts of a single player that propel a team to victory. In Bloomington's game against Wichita last weekend, that player was Laroche Jackson. The DB/KR had a stellar game on special teams by returning a missed field goal 45 yards for a touchdown and a 55 yard kickoff for another score. He also contributed an interception on defense. His efforts helped the Extreme clinch, at worst, a second place finish in the Central Division. This was Jackson's second time winning the Special Teams Player of the Week this season.
Week 14 starts this Thursday, June 11, as Rochester heads west to face the Alaska Wild. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 PM Alaska Time. Follow all the action at www.goifl.com and on the B2 broadcasts www.b2livetv.com of each game all season long.
