Roanoke Dazzle News Release
ROANOKE, Va. â Huntsville's Damone Brown tallied 27 points and 10 rebounds in tonight's NBDL action, leading the Flight to a 112-101 victory over the Dazzle. The win puts Huntsville (7-5) back in the third place slot, while the Dazzle (6-5) drop's back into fourth in NBDL rankings.
Utilizing a balanced scoring attack the Flight took control in the second quarter as the Dazzle relinquished their first quarter 8 point lead. Huntsville posted three players in double digit scoring. Along with Brown's 27, came Joe Shipp with 25, Antoine Pettway contributed 20 and Bernard King's effort added 18 more.
Roanoke was hampered throughout the game with poor shooting. The Dazzle hit just 17 shots in the second quarter while the Flight poured in 31 giving them an impressive 63.2% from the field. "One of the things that is disappointing is all the things we did the other night off the bench we didn't do tonight," said Kent Davison. "We couldn't' get in the flow, we couldn't make open shots and to their credit they did. They isolated us and we couldn't guard them".
The Dazzle found veteran Cory Alexander as their leading scorer with 22 points, while James Thomas had yet another double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. The Dazzle fought hard with five players in double digits including Matt Caroll's 17, Terrence Shannon's additional 16 and Sung-Yoon Bang's 11.
"Early on Roanoke came out hot and we had every opportunity to fold, but we didn't," said Flight Head Coach Ralph Lewis. "We had guys in foul trouble and we didn't give up. Our guys played with a lot of heart and they deserved to win."
Huntsville's victory spoiled Roanoke's flawless home record sending the Dazzle home for the holidays with a loss.
The Dazzle return to action Wednesday, December 29 on the road matching up against Huntsville. The Flight return home to the Von Braun Center on Saturday, December 25 to take on the Florida Flame, game time 7:00 p.m. For more information, log onto www.nbdl.com
