April 13, 2005 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA)
Johnstown RiverHawks News Release
The Johnstown Riverhawks of the Atlantic Indoor Football League (AIFL) and WWGE Radio AM-1400 in Cambria County, known as The Edge 1400, have reached an agreement to broadcast the entire 2005 season.
The first Riverhawks game to be broadcast will be the home opener Saturday April 16, 2005 as the Riverhawks host the Erie Freeze at 7:05 p.m.
Riverhawks owner Brian Schwelling said, "The radio partnership with WWGE was an easy decision to make for the organization. Considering the existing line up of sports, WWGE carries the Steelers, plus the built-in sports audience already listening, this will be a good addition to the Riverhawks coverage."
According to Travis Andrews, WWGE Program and Sports Director, "Our goal is to help the Riverhawks reach its regional fan base, develop a larger fan base and bring Riverhawks live play-by-play action to our audience."
"Whether the game is home or away, it is important for the fans to stay connected to the team. This is an excellent opportunity for WWGE, the Riverhawks and fans of the AIFL".
Shawn Curtis will serve as play-by-play announcer. Additional announcers and color commentators will be added to the broadcasts throughout the 2005 season. WWGE will be adding a new web stream so that listeners and fans can tune in over the Internet from anywhere in the world. The web site address is www.edge1400.com and can also be accessed from the Riverhawks web site at www.johnstownriverhawks.com.
