The American Basketball Challenge
August 24, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Miami Majesty News Release
MIAMI, FLORIDA. (August 15, 2005) " That's right, The American Basketball Challenge will let you call tryouts, pick the players, coach them, and if they beat the ABA All-Stars, the team is yours to own and operate.
"This is truly an American dream, the dream of ownership in a traditionally prohibitive sports league doesn't happen: EVER," said Victor Bao, President of The American Basketball Challenge. "All that we ask is that you have serious game, and that you dedicate yourself to building the best team possible".
The American Basketball Association will provide the winning contestant with the live Dream Team for next season's television series THE AMERICAN BASKETBALL CHALLENGE. "There's a story to be told about idealistic young men in America - and hopefully we can capture the heart and soul of the ABA in an all new and fascinating reality show about passion, people, teamwork and basketball." Said Joe Newman, Co-Founder and Chairman of the American Basketball Association
With over 60 teams playing each season, the ABA is the largest sports entertainment enterprise in the country. The ABA gave its teams The New York Nets, The Indiana Pacers, The Denver Nuggets, and the San Antonio Spurs to the NBA back in the late 60's during a merger with the NBA, and was the breeding-ground for basketball icons like Julius "Dr. J" Erving, and George Gervin.
"Today the ABA is a powerful positive association advertiser product, and the most entertaining sports league in history, this is an incredible opportunity to create entertaining content with broad appeal. ABA is the most likable sports league out there," said Jay Cannold, President The ABA Challenge.
This season's opening game will be held in Pittsburgh, and will be honored with the presence of basketball legends George Gervin and Dr. J, two players that made it to stardom in the ABA and became the two of the most famous names in basketball around the world.
