Thank You Letter to Fans from Coach Bechard

May 1, 2014 - SPHL (SPHL)
Columbus Cottonmouths News Release

To all of our Cottonmouths' Sponsors, Season Ticket Holders, friends and families that attended our games, I would like to thank you for all of your support. We went through the season on a roller coaster, but finished on a high returning to the SPHL Finals for the second time in three years. You are a huge part of that success and we couldn't have done it without you!

Our games provided some new, awesome entertainment with our Snake Head entrance setting the atmosphere at every game and the added excitement during the intermission with our popular "Chicken Game with John the Chicken Man." Your dancing goalie, Andrew Loewen, received over 1 million hits on You Tube performing the Wobble Dance and two-time gold winning Olympic Athlete Shannon Szabados played an SPHL game right here in Columbus, the first female to play in an SPHL game. Shannon was an essential piece of the puzzle that carried the team to the SPHL Finals, while also being a great role model for young women and athletes in general.

The Cottonmouths players and staff spent time working within the Columbus and surrounding areas communities throughout the season. The Snakes were able to visit with the youth of the Chattahoochee Valley Area spending time reading and introducing them to hockey, while also sharing a positive message with the area's youth. We were able to raise awareness and funds for some great causes including Relay For Life, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and more! Thanks to the outstanding support of our fans and sponsors, our annual Tip-A-Snake event raised more than $36,000 for Children's Miracle Network this year!

I am pleased to report that I expect to have a strong core of the players returning, possibly as many as twelve. This is an encouraging start for next year, allowing us to hit the road running and build upon what we started this year. Simply getting to the Championship is not enough; we need to win it for all of you! The most important thing is that we are able to be in Columbus and the surrounding areas, making a positive impact on the community; Winning is icing on the cake!

On behalf of our owners Wanda and Shelby, our players and staff, I would like to say THANK YOU to all of you. We couldn't do it without you!!

Yours Truly,

Jerome Bechard
