Texas Stars News Release

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Josh Robinson and Pat Nagle combined to stop all 30 shots they faced and Austin Smith scored the game-winning goal as the Texas Stars shutout the San Antonio Rampage 3-0 Sunday night in their pre-season finale in front of 2,543 fans at Cedar Park Center.

After a scoreless first period, the Stars broke the deadlock six minutes and a half into the second period when defenseman Cameron Gaunce's shot from the point ricocheted off the end boards and right onto the stick of Austin Smith to tap into the open net past goaltender Michael Houser. Defenseman Jyrki Jokipakka had the additional assist on the go-ahead goal at 6:31. In a planned substitution, the Stars replaced starter Josh Robinson midway through the second period with backup goaltender Pat Nagle.

Early in the third, the Stars added to their lead as Jokipakka notched his second assist when his rocket of a shot was deflected past Houser by rookie Justin Mercier. Winger Curtis McKenzie also was awarded an assist on the Mercier goal at 4:22. Nagle was strong in goal, turning away a flurry of offense from San Antonio, including thwarting Logan Shaw's shorthanded breakaway. Montgomery sealed the victory with 7 seconds left with an empty net goal at 19:52 to complete a 3-0 shutout.

Josh Robinson started the game for Texas and stopped all nine shots he faced in 28:35 of action, while backup Pat Nagle had 21 saves over the final 31:25. Robinson earned the win as Texas had the lead before Nagle came in, who took a no-decision in the combined shutout. Michael Houser played the entire game in goal for San Antonio and allowed two goals on 21 shots in the loss. The Rampage out-shot the Stars 30-22 and went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Texas finished 0-for-5 with the man-advantage.

With their pre-season schedule now completed, the Stars will begin the 2013-14 season with Opening Night on Saturday, October 5th as they host the Chicago Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Texas will be handing out 5th anniversary Stars baseball hats as well as magnet schedules presented by Austin Telco Federal Credit Union; it is also the first Coca-Cola Family Four Pack Night and Texas Lottery Lucky Row Night of the year. 2013-14 Texas Stars Season Tickets and Individual Game Tickets are currently on sale.
