Texas Pirates Signed Five Players at Their Second Tryout

Houston, TX - Sunday February 8, 2009. The Texas Pirates completed its second open tryout at Kicks Indoor Sports Complex. Thirty young men came to participate in the tryouts, including two former NFL players. "We had a better turnout and the guys from the last tryout looked more tuned up," said Gary Howard, Sr., President of the Texas Pirates. "I'm very excited."

Coach Leon Thomasson added, "I'm really starting to like what I'm seeing in the players. We found a few players that fit into the scheme that we have built. We've signed those five players with letters of intent today." The players with letters of intent are Howard Jackson, Derrek Franks, Rodney Edwards, Emmanuel Olayinka, and Ramond Gilmore.

The inaugural season of the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) begins April 18, 2009. There are currently six teams in the league, with 3-4 expansion teams expected for the 2010 season. The final open tryout will be Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Kicks, 611 Shepherd in Houston, TX. Registration will begin promptly at 8:00 AM.
