Texas Hurricanes News Release
HOUSTON (May 8, 2009) - Texas Pirates President Gary Howard announced today that the Southern Indoor Football League franchise has parted ways with head coach Leon Thomasson.
"This was a difficult decision,'' Howard said. ``Coach Thomasson is an exceptional coach and knows the outdoor game as well as anyone. He has tremendous patience when teaching younger players and has earned the respect from his veterans.
``But after visiting with the coaching staff, Coach Thomasson agreed to step down and help locate a coach better suited for the indoor game,'' Howard added.
Texas won its first game 46-27 over Houma, but has lost its last two by a combined score of 88-26.
"Until you step into the indoor game, you don't realize just how different the game is from traditional outdoor football,'' said Howard. "We're looking for the individual with a knowledge of this game and the chemistry to bring this talent together.''
The Pirates' next game is May 17 at home against the PASM Florida Kings.
