Texas Pirates Sign Former Minnesota Viking

Houston, TX - Sunday February 22, 2009. The Texas Pirates completed its third open tryout. Forty-six men came to participate in the tryouts. After three tryouts, the Pirates signed a total of 42 letters of intent.

"Today, we signed over 35 players to letters of intent after the tryout. The coaching staff was very happy with the turnout and of quality players. The entire staff was very impressed with the younger players, namely Joe Townsend from Prairie View," said Coach Thomasson. "Other notable players are Ramon Gilmore, Thadius Pegues, Sidney Gordon, Michael Kee, and Andre Roy. We look forward to our next tryout on March 14 as we get ready for training camp."

The Texas Pirates tryouts have been very impressive. A lot of skilled players have auditioned, which includes Joe Townsend, a highly publicized former wide receiver with the Prairie View Panthers.

The SIFL has caught the attention of a former NFL player Ramond Gilmore, formerly with the Minnesota Vikings. He was signed by the Texas Pirates as a running back. Ramond was also a star player and captain with the Texas Southern University (TSU) Tigers.

The inaugural season of the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) begins April 18, 2009. The Texas Pirates first game will be Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Kicks Indoor Sports Complex against the Houma Conquerors.

The final open tryout will be Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Kicks, 611 Shepherd in Houston, TX. Registration will begin promptly at 6:00 PM. To pre-register, visit our site at www.texaspiratesfootball.com.
