NORTH NOTES

Arkansas Travelers (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) 10-13, third place, North Division

April 23...Sean Rodriguez allowed three runs on three hits in an inning of work and took the loss. Rodriguez stole home during a two-run fifth for Arkansas (7-1). April 24...Nick Adenhart (3-1) lost for the first time in four starts this season, despite striking out seven over 8 1/3 innings. He yielded three runs -- two earned -- on six hits and a pair of walks. The 20-year-old right-hander has given up only three earned runs over 26 2/3 innings and is second in the league with a 1.01 ERA. April 25...Travelers starter Chris Saenz (1-1) retired just two batters, yielding six runs on two hits while striking out one and walking four. Adam Morrissey and Freddy Sandoval collected the only hits for Arkansas (7-11), losers of four straight. Sandoval and Curtis Pride scored on Jon Herrera's error in the fourth. April 26...Nick Green combined with two relievers on a one-hitter as Arkansas shut down Tulsa 7-0, on Thursday at Dickey-Stephens Park. Green (2-1) struck out five and walked one over seven frames, surrendering just a two-out single to Christian Colonel in the top of the second inning. Relievers Rafael Rodriguez and Jose Arredondo kept the one-hitter intact with a perfect inning apiece. The starter said it took him several innings to realize his pitching line, making the early base hit even more frustrating. The Travelers (9-12) pulled ahead with four runs in the first. Sean Rodriguez singled home the first run, and Aaron Peel added a sacrifice fly. Rodriguez and Bobby Wilson then scored on an error by starting pitcher Jonathan Asahina. Freddy Sandoval and Curtis Pride drove in a run apiece for Arkansas, and Adam Morrissey added a solo home run in the fourth. April 27...Daniel Davidson pitched eight strong innings for his first win of the year, as Arkansas edged visiting Wichita, 2-1. Davidson (1-3) yielded a run on seven hits, with five strikeouts and no walks as the Travelers (9-12) won their second straight following a four-game skid. Jose Arredondo worked around a single in the ninth for his second save. Tim Duff ripped a two-run single in the second to put Arkansas ahead for good. April 28...Arkansas' James Holcomb (0-1) lasted four innings and was charged with six runs -- four earned -- on five hits and four walks as the Travs' lost to Wichita 8-5. He also fanned three batters. Michael Collins homered and doubled in a run for the Travelers (9-13), who also got two-hit games from Adam Morrissey and Freddy Sandoval. April 29...Freddy Sandoval's eighth-inning grand slam lifted Arkansas over Wichita, 5-1, and spoiled Wranglers pitcher Carlos Rosa's Double-A debut. The Travelers managed only three hits but took advantage of three Wichita errors, including two by third baseman Edward Lucas in the eighth. Bobby Wilson drew a walk to open the eighth and scored the tying run four batters later when Adam Morrissey reached on one of Lucas' errors. Sandoval then hit his first home run of the season to give the Travelers a 5-1 lead. Arkansas starter Nick Adenhart allowed six hits with four strikeouts and one walk, in seven scoreless innings. Bill Edwards (2-1), who gave up a run on four hits over the final two innings, was credited with the win.

Springfield Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) 9-10, second place, North Division

April 23...In a 4-2 loss to Tulsa, Springfield starter Chris Lambert (0-2) gave up four runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked one. The Cardinals fell to 0-5 at home this season. April 25...Joe Mather cranked two home runs to lead Springfield over visiting Wichita, 6-2. Mather opened the scoring with a solo shot in the fourth inning, doubled and scored in the seventh and slammed a leadoff home run in the eighth for his third multi-homer game of the season. Bryan Anderson hit a two-run homer in the seventh to put Springfield ahead, 3-2. Cardinals reliever Kevin Ool (1-0) picked up the win with 2 1/3 perfect innings. Mitchell Boggs started and threw six shutout frames to open the game for the Cardinals, letting up five hits while fanning four and walking three. April 27...There weren't many fireworks during the game, so officials stopped it and shot off fireworks before Springfield finished off a 2-1 victory over visiting Tulsa. The 6,981 at Hammons Field were there for Fireworks Night, but the game was delayed by rain for two hours, 45 minutes. Because of an 11 p.m. CT curfew for launching fireworks, the game was halted in the sixth inning so the show could proceed. Jose Garcia and Brian Stitt each worked three scoreless innings. Matthew Scherer struck out the side in the eighth and Christopher Perez loaded the bases on three walks in the ninth, before getting Jeffrey Dragicevich on a groundout to pick up his third save. Springfield (8-9) got both of its runs in the third. Colby Rasmus doubled in the tying run and Jon Jay scored the go-ahead run on a groundout by Juan Richardson. April 28...Hugo Castellanos (1-2) gave up two runs on two hits over two innings, fanning three and walking one. Starter Jaime Garcia struck out eight and walked one in five innings, yielding three runs -- two earned -- on five hits for the Cardinals in the loss to Tulsa 10-5. April 29...Colby Rasmus belted a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth inning as Springfield defeated visiting Tulsa, 4-2. Rasmus led off the eighth by blasting Judd Songster's offering over the right-center field wall for his second home run of the season. The 20-year-old outfielder entered the game with just four hits in his last 27 at-bats. Joe Mather singled and scored an insurance run on Bryan Anderson's double in the eighth. Jon Jay ripped a solo homer in the third and Jarrett Hoffpauir cracked a run-scoring single in the fifth for the Cardinals (9-10). Springfield reliever Matthew Scherer (1-0) earned the win after tossing a scoreless eighth. He allowed a hit and struck out one without a walk. Christopher Perez pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save. Songster (1-1) took the loss after surrendering two runs on three hits while striking out two without a walk in 1 1/3 innings.

Tulsa Drillers (Colorado Rockies) 11-12, first place, North Division

April 23...Tomas Duenas' two-run double capped a three-run eighth inning as visiting Tulsa rallied to beat Arkansas, 4-2. Aaron Rifkin forged a 2-2 tie with a two-out RBI single off Rafael Rodriguez (0-2). Jose Arredondo came on and walked Tino Sanchez, before Duenas delivered the go-ahead, two-base hit. Jarrett Grube (2-0) picked up the win with his fifth consecutive scoreless appearance. He gave up one hit and walked two in the seventh. Rightfielder Joe Gaetti had three doubles for the Drillers. Franklin Morales, who went six innings for Tulsa (8-9), faced the minimum and didn't allow a hit through the first four. He gave up two runs -- one earned -- on two hits and a pair of walks while striking out six. Steven Register struck out two in a perfect ninth to earn his league lead-tying sixth save. April 24...Ryan Mattheus outdueled Nick Adenhart as visiting Tulsa blanked Arkansas, 3-0, on Tuesday. Mattheus (1-1) allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out two, facing only three batters over the minimum through the first seven innings. Steven Register recorded his Texas League-leading seventh save with a scoreless ninth. The Drillers (9-9) scored in the third and seventh on RBI singles by Jonathan Herrera and Rick Guarno, respectively. They added an insurance tally in the ninth, when Jordan Czarniecki scored on a wild pitch by reliever Bill Edwards. April 25...Jonathan Herrera went 4-for-5 with two RBIs while five Tulsa pitchers combined on a two-hitter in a 7-2 victory over host Arkansas on Wednesday. Herrera's two hits keyed a six-run first inning. He led off with a single, stole second base and scored on Aaron Rifkin's base hit, then capped the barrage with an two-run single to right field. The 22-year-old shortstop added singles in the sixth and ninth in his ninth multi-hit game of the season and leads the Texas League with a .377 batting average. Drillers reliever Zack Parker (2-0) surrendered two unearned runs on two hits while striking out three and walking two in four innings. Starter Ching Lung Lo tossed a 1-2-3 inning, striking out one, but was removed after a 76-minute rain delay. Adam Bright struck out two in a perfect sixth and Jarrett Grube fanned two and walked one in two scoreless innings before Matt Daley shut the door with a flawless ninth, whiffing two. Christopher Frey was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Joe Gaetti, Jordan Czarniecki and Christian Colonel chipped in an RBI apiece for Tulsa. April 26...Jon Asahina (2-1) took the loss for Tulsa against Arkansas 7-0, allowing six runs -- four earned -- on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked one and didn't strike out a batter. April 28...Matt Miller, Aaron Rifkin and Jeff Dragicevich belted ninth-inning homers to power visiting Tulsa past Springfield, 10-5. The Drillers had a 5-3 lead before breaking the game open in the ninth. With one out, Joe Gaetti walked and Miller ripped his second homer of the year to right field. Rifkin promptly followed with his fourth blast and, after Christian Colonel walked, Dragicevich cracked his first home run of the year to left. Gaetti also slugged a two-run homer, his second, in the fifth. He and Miller each had three RBIs. Judd Songster (1-0) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the win, allowing one hit. Drillers starter Franklin Morales yielded three runs on four hits in 5 2/3 frames. April 29...Drillers second baseman Jeff Dragicevich collected two hits, including a solo homer in the fifth in the loss to Springfield 4-2. Christian Colonel laced a game-tying double in the sixth for Tulsa.

Wichita Wranglers (Kansas City Royals) 9-13, fourth place, North Division

April 23...Michael Connolly pitched six scoreless innings to lead visiting Wichita past Springfield, 6-1. Connolly (1-0) retired the first seven batters he faced and permitted just two hits, a one-out double to Matt Pagnozzi in the third inning and a two-out double to Chris Lubanski in the sixth. He struck out four and walked two. Springfield (5-9) got its only run when Juan Richardson took reliever Juan Cedeno deep in the seventh for his first homer of the season. Greg Atencio retired all three batters he faced in the ninth. . Wichita (8-9) got on the board in the fourth when Lubanski, who went 2-for-5, tripled with one out and scored on a double by Craig Brazell. That extended Brazell's hitting streak to a Texas League-best 15 games. Jorge Padilla homered leading off the seventh and Onil Joseph and Irving Falu stroked RBI singles for the Wranglers. April 26...in the loss to Springfield 6-2, starter Daniel Christensen went four innings for the Wranglers (8-10), giving up one run on two hits while striking out four and walking three. Dusty Hughes (0-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 2 1/3 innings. April 27...Wranglers starter Luke Hochevar (2-2) went four innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts taking the loss 2-1 against Arkansas. Edward Lucas broke up the shutout with a solo homer in the seventh for Wichita (8-12). April 28...Chris Lubanski and Craig Brazell supplied the power as Wichita defeated host Arkansas, 8-5. Lubanski got the Wranglers (9-12) off to a quick start with two-run triple in the first inning. He added a leadoff homer, his fourth of the season, in the seventh. On the night he went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Brazell blasted a solo shot, his sixth, in the ninth for Wichita, which got a hit or a run from all but one starter. Wranglers starter Michael Connolly (2-0) allowed three runs -- two earned --on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six without issuing a walk. April 29...Jace Brewer led off the eighth with a single and moved to second on Adam Greenberg's sacrifice. Brewer scored the lone run for the Wranglers (9-13) on Onil Joseph's base hit. Lucas and Geraldo Valentin finished with two hits, while Chris Lubanski went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. Carlos Rosa scattered two hits, three strikeouts and three walks in 6 2/3 scoreless innings. The 22-year-old right-hander went 2-1 with a 0.39 ERA in four starts for Class A Advanced Wilmington and has yielded just one earned run in 29 2/3 innings this season. Jarod Plummer (0-1) took the loss after allowing four unearned runs on one hit in 2/3 of an inning.

SOUTH NOTES

Corpus Christi Hooks (Houston Astros) 8-15, fourth place, South Division

April 23... Ray Sadler homered for the Hooks (6-11), extending his hitting streak to 11 games. Drew Sutton belted his first home run, but Corpus Christi's Todd Self went 0-for-3 to snap his 11-game hitting streak. Hooks designated hitter Noochie Varner went 2-for-3 with an RBI to increase his batting average to .472 after 13 games. Corpus Christi starter Troy Patton yielded three runs on six hits, while striking out three and walking three in six innings. Thompson allowed one run on three hits in three innings. April 24...Jeff Wigdahl was charged with four runs on four hits, with two strikeouts and two walks, in 1 2/3 innings in the loss to Midland 11-5. Ray Sadler extended his hitting streak to 12 games for the Hooks (6-12) by leading off the fourth with his fifth homer of the season and second in as many games. Edwin Maysonet cracked a solo shot in the second. April 25...Beau Torbert had two hits and two RBIs for the Hooks and Todd Self added a run-scoring groundout in the losing effort against Midland 9-3. April 26...Tim Raines Jr. ended a five-hour, 26-minute marathon with an RBI single in the 18th inning to give Corpus Christi a 7-6 win over visiting Midland on Tuesday. Edwin Maysonet doubled with one out in the decisive inning to set up Raines, who went 4-for-8, with three runs scored for the Hooks (7-13). Ronnie Martinez started and went seven innings for the Hooks, allowing two unearned runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out two. Four relievers went the rest of the way without allowing an earned run. Evan Englebrook went 1 1/3 innings, allowing two unearned runs on one hit and one walk while striking out three. Ryan Thompson struck out six in 3 2/3 perfect innings, and Jeff Wigdahl struck out four in four shutout frames. Enyelbert Soto (1-0) picked up the win, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out three in three innings. Todd Self had four hits for Corpus Christi and Ray Sadler saw his 13-game hitting streak come to an end. April 27...Hooks starter Chance Douglass (0-1) yielded a run on four hits and a walk, with four strikeouts in seven strong innings. Jonny Ash went 2-for-4 with a triple for Corpus Christi in the loss to Frisco 1-0. April 28...In the 5-2 loss to Frisco, Jonny Ash doubled twice and drove in a run for the Hooks (7-16). Wallace Torbert had two hits and drove in Corpus Christi's other run. Hooks starter Troy Patton (1-2) gave up four runs -- two earned -- on six hits and two walks over 3 1/3 innings. The left-hander, who had pitched at least six innings in each of his four previous starts, struck out three as his ERA climbed to 3.18. April 29...Jonny Ash hit a two-out, two-run blast to carry Corpus Christi to a 5-4 win over visiting Frisco. With the Hooks (8-15) trailing in the seventh inning, 4-3, Drew Sutton reached on a bunt single and Ash followed with his first homer of the year. The Hooks' Francisco Caraballo, who went 3-for-4, cracked a solo shot to right in the fifth. German Melendez (1-1) hurled three scoreless innings, giving up a hit while striking out two and walking one for the win. Ryan Thompson fanned the three batters he faced in the ninth to notch his first save. Hooks starter Joshua Muecke allowed four runs on six hits over five innings, striking out six and walking two.

Frisco RoughRiders (Texas Rangers) 14-9, t-second place, South Division

April 23...RoughRiders starter Douglas Mathis (0-1) allowed two runs on six hits and three walks, with two strikeouts, over 5 2/3 innings. Casey Benjamin and German Duran had two hits apiece for Frisco. April 24...Kevin Richardson and German Duran homered to power visiting Frisco over San Antonio, 5-4. Richardson erased a 3-1 deficit with a three-run blast in the sixth inning and Duran added a solo shot in the seventh as the RoughRiders (11-7) ended a three-game losing streak. Brandon Puffer (2-0) picked up the win by retiring the final two batters in the sixth. Randy Williams struck out three over two one-hit frames which Jesse Ingram pitched a perfect ninth for his third save. April 25...RoughRiders starter Armando Galarraga (1-2) surrendered seven runs on five hits while striking out four and walking four in four innings in the loss to San Antonio 8-5. Jake Blalock's two-run single put Frisco (11-8) on the board in the second. Salomon Manriquez launched a two-run homer in the third and German Duran cracked a solo shot in the fourth for the RoughRiders. It was a matchup between the leading home run hitting teams in the Texas League, and San Antonio now trails the RoughRiders, 23-20. April 26...Anthony Webster crushed a three-run homer to power Frisco over San Antonio, 8-4, at Wolff Stadium.Webster's first blast of the season highlighted the RoughRiders' five-run, fourth inning. The 24-year-old right fielder went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Frisco pounded out 14 hits, including a solo homer by Emerson Frostad and a two-run shot by Jim Fasano. Starter Luis Mendoza (3-0) picked up the win, giving up four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits and two walks, while striking out three, in six innings. April 27...Eric Hurley and three relievers combined on a five-hitter as visiting Frisco edged Corpus Christi, 1-0. Hurley (3-0) allowed four hits, struck out five and did not walk a batter over seven innings, lowering his ERA to 1.50.Bill White tossed a hitless eighth and Jesse Ingram got one out in the ninth before Kenneth Chenard retired the final two batters for his first save. Steve Murphy went 3-for-3 and scored the only run for the RoughRiders. He singled in the second inning, stole second, went to third on Kevin Richardson's flyout and scampered home on Emerson Frostad's sacrifice fly. April 28...Doug Mathis allowed one run over six innings as Frisco defeated Corpus Christi, 5-2, on Saturday at Whataburger Field. Mathis (1-0) scattered six hits, walked two and struck out five in his second start for the RoughRiders (15-8). After posting a 10.66 ERA in three Pacific Coast League appearances, the 24-year-old right-hander has a 2.31 ERA in two Texas League outings. Jake Blalock, in his second game since being promoted from Class A Advanced Bakersfield, was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Frisco. Travis Metcalf went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored, while Adam Fox was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. April 29...In the 5-4 loss to the Hooks, German Duran staked the RoughRiders (14-9) to a 2-0 lead when he belted a two-run homer in the second. Reliever Jorge Vasquez (0-1) pitched 1 1/3 innings, yielding two runs on three hits, striking out one without issuing a walk. Frisco starter Paul Kometani pitched 5 2/3 innings, surrendering three runs on six hits while fanning one and walking three.

Midland RockHounds (Oakland Athletics) 13-7, first place, South Division

April 23...Jeff Baisley homered in the top of the ninth inning to lift Midland over Corpus Christi, 4-3. Baisley, who went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, forged a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring double in the fifth. He launched his third homer of the year off Ryan Thompson with one out in the ninth. Landon Powell went 2-for-2 with a homer for the RockHounds (10-4), who have won five of seven. Andy Shipman (2-0) struck out four over four one-hit frames of relief for the win. Jeffrey Gray yielded two hits in the ninth, but was spared a blown save when second baseman Brian Snyder threw out Osvaldo Fernando at the plate for the game's final out. April 24...Gregorio Petit went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and one of Midland's eight doubles as the visiting RockHounds defeated Corpus Christi, 11-5. Petit had singles in each of his first three at-bats and plated runs in the second and fourth innings. He also doubled and scored in the eighth to raise his batting average to .309. Every RockHound (11-4) collected at least one of their 17 hits except Jeff Baisley. Richie Robnett was 3-for-6 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Brian Snyder had two doubles with a run scored, while Jason Perry hit a solo home run in the ninth. Vasili Spanos, Myron Leslie and Brant Colamarino chipped in two hits, including a double. Midland went ahead for good, 7-3, with four runs in the sixth. Robnett singled in Snyder with the go-ahead tally off reliever Jeffrey Wigdahl (1-2) and came home on Spanos' double to left field. Colamarino added an RBI single and Landon Powell walked with the bases loaded. RockHounds reliever Brad Ziegler (2-0) gave up two hits, with one strikeout, in 2 1/3 scoreless innings to get the win. April 25...Jason Perry hit two of Midland's five home runs and drove in four as the visiting RockHounds beat Corpus Christi, 9-3. Midland rallied for seven runs in the final two innings, taking reliever German Melendez deep four times. The RockHounds, trailing 3-2 entering the eighth, took the lead after Richie Robnett, Perry and Brant Colamarino hit solo home runs. Midland, which has won three straight games, tacked on four more runs in the ninth when Vince Faison ripped an RBI triple and Perry belted a three-run homer. Faison, who also hit a two-run homer in the third, had three RBIs. Jeffrey Gray (2-0) struck out four and walked one in 2 1/3 innings of relief to get the win. April 26...In a game with Corpus Christi, which lasted 18 innings, Midland broke through with two runs in the top of the 17th. Myron Leslie led off with an infield single and Landon Powell walked with one out. Brian Snyder's grounder was misplayed by Maysonet at short, but Leslie was tagged out in a rundown between third and home. Gregorio Petit then smacked a two-run single to give the Rockhounds the lead. Midland was unable to hold the lead of the game and the winning run in the 18th. Due to the shortage of arms, Midland was forced to use three position players to close the game with outfielders. Myron Leslie tossed 2 scoreless innings, while Vince Faison was tagged for 2 runs over two innings. Brian Snyder, normally an infielder, took the loss giving up the winning run after retiring one batter. April 27...Kazuhito Tadano and two relievers combined on a four-hitter as Midland shut out host San Antonio, 1-0. Tadano (2-1) pitched a season-high 6 1/3 innings, allowing four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts in his fourth start. The Japanese right-hander, who made just three starts in 34 appearances with Triple-A Sacramento last season, lowered his ERA to 3.09. He has pitched at least six innings in each of his last three outings. Brad Ziegler walked one and struck out one in 1 2/3 hitless frames and Steven Sharpe pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his third save as the RockHounds (13-5) posted their second shutout of the season. Tadano, Ziegler and Jeffrey Gray combined on an eight-hitter in a 2-0 win over Arkansas on April 17. Midland scored the game's only run in the third when Vince Faison led off with a walk and stole second base. Two outs later, Jason Perry singled him home. April 28...Casey Myers homered for the RockHounds (13-6), who had won four of five. Reliever Brad Kilby (0-1) took the loss at San Antonio 2-1, after giving up a run on three hits in one inning. April 29...The RockHounds (13-7) knotted the game in the sixth when Landon Powell singled, moved to third on Eddie Comejo's double and scored on a base hit by Gregorio Petit, who went 3-for-4. Steve Bondurant (0-1) threw two innings, allowing three runs on five hits while fanning one and walking two in taking the loss to the Missions 6-4. Starter Michael Rogers surrendered three runs on four hits in four frames, striking out two and walking three.

San Antonio Missions (San Diego Padres) 14-9, t-second place, South Division

April 23...Sean Thompson and three relievers combined on an eight-hit shutout as San Antonio blanked visiting Frisco, 2-0. Thompson (3-1) yielded six hits and four walks with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings. Jon Searles followed with 1 1/3 hitless frames, Paul Abraham gave up two hits while fanning two in the eighth, and Jon Ellis worked a 1-2-3 ninth for the save. Juan Ciriaco stroked an RBI double to open the scoring in the second inning and scored on Sean Kazmar's single as the Missions (11-6) jumped in front for good. April 24...Missions starter Jose Oyervidez (0-1) surrendered five runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts over seven innings to take the loss against Frisco 5-4. The 25-year-old right-hander held Frisco to one hit over the first five frames. Michael Johnson went 3-for-4 with a homer and Chase Headley also had three hits and scored twice for San Antonio. April 25...San Antonio ripped three homers, including two in a big second inning, en route to an 8-5 win over visiting Frisco. The Missions were trailing in the second, 2-0, when Michael Johnson started a six-run rally. He lashed a double and scored on Chase Headley's shot over the right-field wall. Tim Brown and Nick Hundley then drew walks, setting up Drew Macias' blast. Will Venable added an RBI single to cap the scoring in the inning. Peter Ciofrone belted a solo homer in the fifth and chipped in an RBI single in the eighth for San Antonio, winners of four of its last five. Headley went 2-for-3 and is hitting .362 with four home runs and 16 RBIs in 19 games. Missions reliever Roger Deago (1-0) earned the win after tossing two scoreless frames. He gave up a hit while striking out two and walking one. Neil Jamison nailed down his seventh save by tossing a perfect ninth, striking out one. April 26...In the loss to Frisco 8-4, the Missions scored all four of their runs in the fourth, highlighted by Tim Brown's three-run homer. April 27...Missions starter Michael Ekstrom (1-1) yielded one run on six hits and two walks while striking out five over four innings in the 1-0 loss to Frisco. Nick Hundley had two hits for San Antonio (12-9). The 23-year-old catcher doubled with two outs in the fifth, but Tadano retired Juan Ciriaco on a flyout. April 28...Sean Thompson pitched six strong innings and Tim Brown went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as San Antonio edged visiting Midland, 2-1. Thompson yielded a run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts as his ERA climbed to 0.64. The 24-year-old left-hander has allowed only two earned runs over 28 1/3 innings this season. Frank Brooks (2-0) picked up the win by tossing a scoreless eighth and Neil Jamison worked the ninth for his Texas League-leading eighth save. Brown delivered RBI singles in the fifth and seventh as the Missions (13-9) ended a two-game skid. April 29...Run-scoring hits by Drew Macias and Peter Ciofrone keyed a two-run rally in the sixth inning that gave host San Antonio a 6-4 victory over Midland on Sunday. Sean Kazmar opened the inning with a single and, after moving up on a sacrifice, came home on Macias' triple to snap a 4-4 tie. Ciofrone followed with an RBI single to right, scoring Macias. San Antonio's Tim Brown belted his sixth home run of the season with a man aboard in the fourth, while Will Venable went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Jon Searles (1-1) allowed one run on three hits in 1 1/3 innings, striking out two without issuing a walk to notch the win for the Missions (14-9). Neil Jamison hurled one perfect inning, getting two groundouts and a flyout, to give him his Minor-League leading ninth save. Missions starter Jose Oyervidez pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on four hits while fanning three and walking two.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Hooks second baseman had a solid week with the bat, collecting at least one hit in all seven games. In fact, his current hitting streak sits at 10 games. Against Frisco on Saturday, The Stanford Cardinal product went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and a RBI. And on Sunday, Ash hit a two-out, two-run homerun in the seventh to carry Corpus Christi to a 5-4 win over visiting Frisco.

Ash was selected in the 11th round of the 2004 amateur draft. The Oakland, CA native had a sound career at Stanford batting .316 in his four years at college. His best, .372 his senior year.

Nick Green, Arkansas

The Travelers starter had a spectacular game on the mound Thursday night against Tulsa. Green tossed 7 shut-out innings, surrendering just a two-out single to Christian Colonel in the top of the second inning. Green, 8-5 with a 4.41 ERA for Arkansas last season, tossed an eight-inning, two-hitter, with a season-high 11 strikeouts on Aug. 14 against Frisco. The 22-year-old right-hander kept the Drillers guessing all night and snapped their three-game win streak. Green was a 35th-round 2004 draft pick by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

3B Brandon Larson ('05), a former No. 1 draft pick (14th overall) by the Cincinnati Reds in 1997, joined the Senators this week after being activated from the disabled list with a strained oblique. A veteran hitter, Larson spent parts of four seasons with the Reds and all of last year with Triple-A New Orleans. ... 3B Marshall McDougall, ('03-'04) who set a NCAA record with a six-homer game for Florida State in 1999, is hoping for a healthy year after missing almost all of last year because of a two wrist surgeries. McDougall, 28, was released by Texas after last season and signed by the Dodgers. The Jacksonville native, who had a 10-game hitting streak snapped, is batting .274 with four homers and 16 RBIs.

OF John-Ford Griffin ('02) has hit .172 in his last nine games and has two hits in his last 13 at-bats. ...OF Ryan Ludwick ('01) batted .447 (17-for-38) with five home runs and 17 RBIs over his last 10 games. ...
