
Texas Closes Out 2009 With A 3-2 Loss At Manitoba

Winnipeg, MB, Canada - The Texas Stars (20-11-2-3, 45 points) were defeated by the Manitoba Moose (20-14-4-0, 44 points) 3-2 on Thursday night in front of 11,820 fans at the MTS Centre. Moose forward Michael Grabner and defenseman Brian Salcido each scored over a 3:05 span late in the second period to give Manitoba the win. Texas forwards Travis Morin and Colton Sceviour each tallied goals in the defeat, as the team fell to 0-3-0-1 in their last four games. Stars goalie Matt Climie (9-10-3) made 26 saves in the defeat, as Texas fell to 11-5-1-1 on the road this year. Manitoba goalie Cory Schneider (17-8-0) stopped 34 shots, leading the Moose to their first win of the year over the Stars. Texas will play at Manitoba again on Saturday at 7:30 PM at the MTS Centre.
The two teams traded goals within the first three minutes of the game. Manitoba opened the scoring at 1:59 of the first period as Marco Rosa tallied his seventh goal of the year for the 1-0 Moose lead. Rosa knocked in a rebound off a Michael Grabner shot, beating Texas goalie Matt Climie for the night's first goal. The Stars answered back 52 seconds later, tying the game 1-1. Texas right wing Colton Sceviour skated wide around the Manitoba defense and snapped a shot over the shoulder of Moose goalie Cory Schneider at 2:51. Texas forward Ray Sawada and defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy each picked up an assist on Sceviour's fifth goal of the year.
Texas claimed a 2-1 lead at 13:39 of the second period. Captain Landon Wilson picked off the puck on the right-wing wall and centered the puck to the Manitoba slot. Texas winger Travis Morin redirected the centering pass over the shoulder of Schneider for his fourth goal of the season. The Moose countered with two goals before the end of the period. Defenseman Brian Salcido fired a slapshot past Matt Climie at 16:00 of the period, scoring his sixth goal of the year and tying the game 2-2. Manitoba took the lead before the end of the middle period. Right wing Michael Grabner beat Climie with 55 seconds left in the period for the 3-2 Manitoba lead. Grabner scored his sixth goal of the season in only his eighth game of the year.
The Stars remain in Manitoba for one more road game on Saturday, Jan. 2 at 7:30 PM. Texas returns to the Cedar Park Center on Wednesday, Jan. 6 for a game against the Houston Aeros at 7:30 PM. On Tuesday, the first 2,000 fans will receive a Texas Stars rally towel. The Stars travel to Abbotsford, BC for back-to-back road games on Friday, Jan. 8 and Saturday, Jan. 9.
