Tevin Homer Relaxed and Ready to Go
About six months ago, the Massachusetts Pirates signed cornerback and reigning Arena Bowl Champion Tevin Homer. The 6-foot-2, physical defensive back has had quite the path to the Pirates, as he spent time on the Redskins roster in 2017 before joining the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League in 2018. His football journey carried into Arena Football when he joined the Albany Empire last season and was the leading tackler in Arena Bowl XXXII.
Following the 2019 season, Homer was in search of a new team. The Pirates reached out and a deal was agreed upon shortly after.
"Jawad and I got in contact through social media. I was very excited about the opportunity and enjoyed my time in Worcester after signing," Homer told masspiratesfootball.com.
As reigning Arena Bowl champion, Homer gave insight on his experiences during the title run and how he can bring a winning culture to his new team.
"During my time on a championship team, I learned to not worry about the previous day and to keep working hard every day until you reach the ultimate goal," Homer said. "I think I can bring the mindset of never being satisfied to the Pirates."
All athletes need time to wind-down from their given sport. When his mind isn't on football, Homer says he likes to kick back and pick up the controller to pass the time.
"When I'm not training I like to chill out and relax," Homer said. "My biggest hobby at the moment is playing video games, specifically Call of Duty: Warzone. It's a lot of fun."
He says he has faced many tough obstacles throughout his football career. But his biggest challenge came when he was trying out for the Carolina Panthers a few years back.
"I remember having an opportunity to work out with the Panthers, but I was very nervous because I knew I wasn't fully prepared or in my best shape," Homer said. "Since that day, I just tell myself that I will never get out of shape again."
Like many athletes across the globe, Homer has extra time on his hands this summer due to Covid-19. He says the best part about it is being able to relax and hang out with friends whenever he wants.
"I don't have any specific summer hobbies, but I always enjoy relaxing by a pool or hanging out with close friends," Homer said.
