Tennessee Valley Football renamed Raptors

Tennessee Valley Raptors News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Tennessee Valley Football is now fielding a new team, which is not the Tennessee Valley Vipers team that played in the af2 league. We have a new team that will represent the Tennessee Valley area and play in United Indoor Football.

We operated the Tennessee Valley Vipers for five years. We left the af2 league because we felt it was not performing its obligations to the team operators and made increasing financial demands on the teams. The financial demands on the af2 member teams were such that since the league was founded in 2000, numerous teams have gone out of operation. We worked to make the league more financially viable and responsive to the needs of team operators, but were unable to get the organization to change.

Tennessee Valley Football was approached about membership in a new indoor football league and when attempts to resolve issues with af2 failed, we decided joining the new league was the best way to ensure a strong indoor football franchise in the Tennessee Valley area.

We chose the name Tennessee Valley Pythons to use for our new team. af2 has objected that people will be confused by the Pythons name and think the team is the Vipers of the af2 league. We think people can distinguish the names Pythons and Vipers. However, we want to concentrate our energy on providing Tennessee Valley with the best in indoor football, not on legal disputes. We therefore will now be playing as the Tennessee Valley Raptors.
