Tellor's Two HRs Lead Sliders over Bombers

The Springfield Sliders earned a split of their home and home series with the Dubois County Bombers with a 9-6 win tonight at Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when 2B Michael Hurwitz led off the inning with a solo home run to right. Two batters later, 1B Matt Tellor hit a two run shot, putting the Sliders up 3-0 after one. The score stayed that way all the way until the sixth when Sliders' SS Matt Highland hit his first homer of the year to make it 4-0. The Bombers made it interesting with a run in the seventh and another in the eighth, but the Sliders had an answer. RF David Kerian reached on catcher's interference with the bases loaded to score one run, bringing up Tellor with the bases loaded. Tellor then hit a grand slam, his second home run of the night and fourteenth of the year, to put the game seemingly out of reach at 9-2. However, the Sliders' bullpen struggled in the ninth allowing the Bombers to cut the lead to 9-6, and bringing the go ahead run to the plate with two outs against TR Dunne. Dunne buckled down and struck out Bombers' C Chris Tavares to end the game and earn the save. Cody Repenning, who went 6.1 innings, gave up just one run in his best start for the Sliders, picking up his second win of the year. The Bombers now lead the season series 6-4. The Springfield Sliders are back on the road tomorrow as they start a two game series at the Danville Dans. First pitch of tomorrow's game is scheduled for 6:30, with the game scheduled to be broadcast on the Sliders' Ustream channel.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
