Somerset, N.J. (Friday, April 30, 2010) - In partnership with Somerset Medical Center, who is the official medical partner of the team, Sky Blue FC announced today that it will conduct a concussion prevention clinic this Saturday at 4:00 p.m. before the team hosts FC Gold Pride at Yurcak Field. The clinic will be run by Dr. John Kripsak, DO, of Somerset Medical Center, with technical prevention methods being demonstrated by the Sky Blue Soccer School.
"It is the joint mission of Somerset Medical Center and Sky Blue FC to educate our community on the many aspects of remaining healthy and in the game," Sky Blue FC General Manager Gerry Marrone stated. "This is an important and timely clinic, particularly in light of the recent disclosures on the dangers of sports concussions. We take pride in the cutting-edge advice offered by Somerset Medical Center's experts."
Among the topics discussed during the clinic will be the warning signs of concussions, and the Sky Blue Soccer School will also show attendees how to properly head a soccer ball to aid in the prevention of concussions.
"Concussions are serious injuries and should not be taken lightly, especially in student athletes under the age of 18 years of age," said Dr. Kripsak, DO. "Concussions in adult Professional athletes should not serve as the example for how student athletes should be treated. The difference in age makes a world of difference in recovery time and treatment."
