April 30, 2010 - Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) News Release
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 30, 2010) - Philadelphia Independence midfielder Lori Lindsey has been voted WPS Player of the Month for April by fans, media and WPS teams, leading her expansion Independence to an undefeated 1-0-2 record in the inaugural month for the franchise. Lindsey, who was the second overall selection in the 2009 Expansion Draft after the Washington Freedom left her on the unprotected list, has been Philadelphia's primary playmaker, notching four total assists in April. In last weekend's 3-1 win against the Freedom, Lindsey recorded a single-game WPS record three assists in helping Philadelphia to its first-ever WPS victory.
Saint Louis Athletica goalkeeper Hope Solo was second in the voting, which is weighted equally among fans voting online (33%), media (33%) and team vote (33%). Also receiving considerable votes were Kelly Smith (Boston Breakers) and Abby Wambach (Washington Freedom). The WPS Player of the Month is given at the end of each month throughout the WPS Regular Season.
