Sky Blue FC News Release
Somerset, N.J. (Friday, April 30, 2010) - The anticipation continues to build in New Jersey as Sky Blue FC (2-1-0, 6 points) finishes up preparation for a first place showdown with Marta and FC Gold Pride (2-1-0, 6 points) on Saturday night at Yurcak Field. Kickoff for the match is slated for 6:00 p.m., and the winner of the pairing will take over sole possession of the top spot in the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Standings.
"To be honest, we want revenge from FC Gold Pride," Sky Blue FC midfielder Heather O'Reilly said today, referring to a Week Two loss to the Bay Area club, 3-1. "They got the best of us two weeks ago, and we're ready to put together a great performance on Saturday. We have some awesome talent on our team, and we're looking to bring it."
FC Gold Pride took the result from Sky Blue FC at Castro Valley Stadium on Saturday, April 17th, behind a two-goal effort from forward Christie Sinclair and a notch from Marta. Sky Blue FC received its goal from Finnish international Laura Kalmari, who evened the match at one each in the 49th minute.
"I think we have something to prove tomorrow," Sky Blue FC head coach Pauliina Miettinen stated. "It is our goal to play much better than we did the first time, and that is something that will motivate us to perform to the best of our ability."
Sky Blue FC won its only other home game, 1-0, in what was a season opening victory over the Chicago Red Stars. Miettinen commented on the importance of the team defending its home turf.
"You want to have a presence at home," she remarked. "As a team, you want to be tough at home and let the league know that it will be hard to beat you there. Winning at home is critical for our team to be successful this year, and it is very important for us to give the hometown fans our best game."
In partnership with Somerset Medical Center, who is the official medical partner of the team, Sky Blue FC also announced today that it will conduct a concussion prevention clinic this Saturday at 4:00 p.m. before the team hosts FC Gold Pride. Along with a presentation by Dr. John Kripsak, DO, of Somerset Medical Center, the Sky Blue Soccer School will also show attendees how to properly head a soccer ball to aid in the prevention of concussions. Registration for the clinic is free of charge to any fan that purchases tickets for Saturday's match. To sign up for the clinic today, call 1-888-SBFC-TIX.
On-field seats for Saturday are currently sold out, and only two VIP cabanas remain available. To receive a special rate on one of the final two cabanas or purchase stadium seating for Saturday, call 1-888-SBFC-TIX or visit www.skybluefc.com.
