
Team Finishes Home Schedule With Franchise Record Five Wins

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Destroyers, presented by Germain, suffered a 47-34 loss to the Kansas City Brigade in front of 13,803 fans on Huntington Field at Nationwide Arena Saturday night.
Kansas City quarterback Raymond Philyaw was named Offensive Player of the Game after completing 23-of-31 passes for 240 yards and seven touchdowns. Brigade defensive back Travis Coleman was named Defensive Player of the game as he recorded 7.5 tackles, including six solo, three assists and .5 tackle for loss. He also had both Kansas City interceptions and returned them for a combined total of 11 yards.
The fourth quarter began well for Destroyers, as they cut into the Kansas City lead when fullback Harold Wells ran the ball in from the one yard line. Down 34-20, Columbus tried an onside kick and was unsuccessful, resulting in another Brigade score.
Another Destroyers' score, a 5-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matt Nagy to wide receiver Freddie Solomon, coupled with a two-point conversion to wide receiver David Saunders made it 41-28. Nagy was 27-for-40 for 240 yards two interceptions and three touchdowns, including one final scoring play to Solomon with 30 seconds left. Solomon led the Destroyers with eight catches for 83 yards.
Kansas City had the only score of the third quarter with 1:47 remaining, when Philyaw threw his fifth touchdown pass of the game to Anthony Hines, making the score 34-13.
In the first quarter, the only score came when Nagy found wide receiver Marcus Knight in the front corner of the end zone to give the Destroyers a 6-0. The three-yard catch was Knight's sixth touchdown of the season.
Kansas City scored twice to begin the second quarter, a 30-yard touchdown pass from Philyaw to wide receiver Jerel Myers and a 16-yard scoring reception also by Myers. After the first score, Columbus defensive lineman Kelvin Kinney blocked the extra point, making it a 6-6 score. The second Brigade touchdown gave them a 13-6 lead.
The Destroyers answered with a scoring drive of their own, capped by a 3-yard touchdown run by fullback Harold Wells, tying the game 13-13. Kansas City went back up by seven when Philyaw connected with wide receiver Ira Gooch for a 32-yard touchdown pass and catch. Wide receiver Charles Frederick caught another touchdown with 17 seconds left in the second quarter, making the score 27-13 Brigade.
The Destroyers return to action next week when they visit the Philadelphia Soul (6-7) on Saturday, June 16. Kickoff at Wachovia Center is set for 7 p.m. (ET). The game will broadcast live on the Destroyers Radio Network and flagship station WINK 107.1 FM with the pre-game show beginning at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
The Huntington $10 Ticket Blitz continues for every home game during the 2007 Destroyers season. A minimum of 225 lower bowl seats will be available for $10 at the Nationwide Arena Box Office two hours prior to every home game. The regular price on lower bowl seats is $26.
The Destroyers and Giant Eagle are teaming up with the Mid-Ohio FoodBank to TACKLE HUNGER in Central Ohio. Last year, with the help fans, the Destroyers raised enough resources to provide over 27,000 meals to those in need. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to all Destroyers home games to receive a raffle ticket. In addition to the food drive, if fans bring a non-perishable food item from Giant Eagle they will receive a voucher for $3 off a regularly priced ticket.
