Tavares Named Overall And Offensive Player Of The Week

BUFFALO, N.Y. (March 17, 2010) --- The National Lacrosse League announced today that Buffalo Bandits forward John Tavares was named Offensive Player of the Week as well as Overall Player of the Week, for Week #10 of the 2010 NLL Season. The Week #10 NLL schedule consisted of games played on the weekend of March 12th -14th.

Tavares scored the Bandits game-winning overtime goal in both weekend games against Toronto and Boston; posting 11 points tallying 7 goals, 4 assists and 15 loose balls. On Friday he recorded six points (3+3) and picked up 9 loose balls in an 11-10 (OT) road win against the Rock. The following night he scored five points (4+1), while collecting six loose balls in a 9-8 (OT) road win at Boston. Tavares registered four power play points (2+2) over the weekend. Since his return on Feb. 13 @ Philadelphia, Tavares has 12 points (4+8) on the man advantage, rejuvenating the Bandits power play that went 8 for 28 in the first six weeks of the season.

Tavares and the rest of the Buffalo Bandits are back in action on Saturday, March 27 against the Rochester Knighthawks. Ball drop from Blue Cross Arena is slated for 7:35 p.m. ET.

The NLL Weekly Player Awards are determined each week by a vote of the General Managers & Head Coaches of the leagues eleven member clubs.
