John Tavares Named National Lacrosse League's Overall Player Of The Week

John Tavares of the Buffalo Bandits has been voted the National Lacrosse League Overall Player of the Week & Offensive Player of the Week for the games of Week #10 of the 2010 regular season. Tavares scored game-winning goals in overtime on back-to-back nights this past weekend, helping the Bandits to a pair of crucial road wins (at Toronto and Boston) that moved from a 3-6 record to 5-6 and right back into the playoff chase in the Eastern Division.
For the two games, the Bandits forward had a total of 7 goals, 4 assists and 15 loose balls. The league's all-time leading scorer had the OT game winners in an 11-10 win at Toronto on Friday, and a 9-8 win at Boston on Saturday.
The Defensive Player of the Week honors went to another player who had a huge role in his team winning two games this past weekend. Goaltender Matt Vinc of the Orlando Titans had a big weekend, as the Titans defeated Philadelphia 11-9 on Friday and Rochester by a score of 9-4 on Saturday. In the Rochester game, Vinc stopped every Knighthawks shot on goal for the first 38 minutes of the game. For the two games combined, Vinc allowed 11 goals and made 101 saves in 112 minutes of play. Two of the nine goals in the game vs. the Wings were scored against backup goaltender Kurtis Wagar.
Orlando Titans Transition Player Jordan Hall won the weekly award for his position. In the two wins this past weekend, Hall scored three goals, tallied nine assists for a total of 12 points. Hall also picked up nine loose balls in the two games.
Colorado Mammoth forward Alex Gajic won Rookie of the Week honors. Gajic scored five goals and an assist for the Mammoth in a 13-9 loss to Edmonton.
The Player of the Week Awards are determined each week by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league's eleven member clubs. The Games of Week #10 of the season consisted of the games played on March 12-13.
