Tavares & Grant To Serve As All-Star Captains

February 23, 2011 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release


The National Lacrosse League has announced the team captains for the 2011 All-Star Game, presented by the Oneida Indian Nation. The All-Star Game takes place on Sunday, February 27 at the Event Center at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY. Game time is 2pm Eastern.

John Tavares will serve as Captain of the East All-Stars. The Buffalo Bandits forward and the league's all-time leading scorer will be joined by East Assistant Captains Colin Doyle (Toronto Rock) and Pat McCready (Rochester Knighthawks).

John Grant Jr. will serve as Captain of the West All-Stars. The Colorado Mammoth forward is suiting up in a West uniform for the first time after having represented the East in his previous six All-Star appearances. West Assistant Captains are Lewis Ratcliff (Washington Stealth) and Andrew McBride (Calgary Roughnecks).

The league also announced that Boston Blazers goaltender Anthony Cosmo has been added to the East roster. The Blazers' netminder will be making his fifth career All-Star appearance and will split time with starting goaltender Brandon Miller of the Philadelphia Wings. Cosmo takes the place of Rock goaltender Bob Watson.

The television broadcast play-by-play and color commentary will be handled by John Gurtler and Brian Shanahan, respectively. Gurtler is in his eighth season as the TV & Radio Voice of the Buffalo Bandits, with broadcasts also airing on The NLL Network at NLL.com. Shanahan has been the game's leading television analyst for more than a decade, and has announced NLL games on ESPN, NBC, VERSUS, TSN and a host of other networks. The game airs live at 2pm Eastern on VERSUS and The NLL Network at NLL.com. TSN2 will air the game at 10pm ET.

Another voice familiar to NLL fans will be heard throughout the All-Star Game. Chris Swenson will be the game's Public Address announcer. Swenson, who is in his 20th season as PA announcer for Buffalo Bandits home games, is known by fans around the league for his energetic style and ability to get the crowd on their feet during NLL games.

The National Lacrosse League 2011 All-Star Game, presented by the Oneida Indian Nation, takes place at the Event Center at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York on Sunday, February 27 at 2 PM Eastern. The game features the world's greatest lacrosse players in an East Division vs. West Division format.

Tickets for the All-Star Game are priced at $20 and $30 for adults and $10 for youth 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased at any Ticketmaster location or online at ticketmaster.com. They are available at the Turning Stone Box office or by calling 1-877-833-SHOW. The Box Office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Group ticket packages are also available.

Fans are encouraged to come early and visit the NLL Fan Fest, which begins at 10am on gameday. Fan Fest, located in the Cypress Conference Area adjacent to the Event Center, gives fans the chance to play the NLL Lacrosse video game, pick up a stick and play with the pros in Rock the Box and get autographs from their favorite players. Players will be on site up until Noon, with other activities running until the game's start time at 2pm Eastern.

The game will be televised live on VERSUS and live online via The NLL Network at NLL.com at 2pm Eastern. TSN2 will air a national broadcast of the game in Canada at 10pm Eastern.
