PEORIA, Ill. -- The Mississippi RiverKings (14-7-2) came up short on Friday against the Peoria Rivermen (11-4-6) by the score of 3-1 in the first half of a two-game road trip.
Peoria struck first with a Justin Hoomaian shot from the slot at 9:22 of the first period. Jeff Jones earned the primary assist by finding Hoomaian in traffic from below the goal line. The Rivermen took the 1-0 lead into the middle frame.
The two teams traded goals in the second period. Peoria extended their lead just 1:38 into the period with a breakaway goal by Cody Dion. Mississippi cut the deficit in half as Dustin Jesseau set up Alexander Taulien on the doorstep for his first SPHL goal at 11:28. Peoria led 2-1 after forty minutes.
The RiverKings sent out an extra attacker with a minute left in regulation. Alec Hagaman took advantage and walked in an empty net goal, sealing the 3-1 win for Peoria.
Brad Barone (6-4-2) took the loss after stopping 25 of 27 shots. Tyler Green (6-1-3) turned away 25 of 26 shots against in the victory. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play.
The RiverKings will face Peoria on Saturday to conclude the weekend at Carver Arena. The RiverKings return to the Landers Center next weekend to host the Rivermen for another back-to-back set. ]
