Tampa Bay Strong Dogs Announce Head Coach and Home Court!!
August 3, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Tampa Bay Strong Dogs News Release
Sports + Field proudly welcomes Vince Askew as head coach of the Tampa Bay Strong Dogs. The former NBA and Seattle Sonics guard and nine-year veteran of the NBA, played five seasons for the Seattle Supersonics from 1992-96 under coach George Karl, then played with the Indiana Pacers for coach Larry Brown and the Portland Trailblazers under coach Mike Dunleavy. While playing for the Sonics, he helped the team earn a trip to the 1996 NBA finals to play Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.
He comes to the Tampa Bay Strong Dogs from the Tacoma Navigators where he was head coach and director of basketball operations. His excellent relationships with former coaches helped jumpstart his coaching career. The Tampa Bay Strong Dogs will be his third career coaching position.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
