Tampa Bay Rowdies News Release
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced one more addition for the stretch run of the season on Thursday, with goalkeeper Daniel Vega joining the squad, pending league and federation approval.
Vega spent the last three seasons with Miami FC, recently helping Miami FC 2 to the NPSL National Championship this summer.
"We're very happy that a player of Daniel's quality is available for us at this point in our season," Rowdies Head Coach Neill Collins said. "We want competition at every position in the team because it makes everyone better. If we feel that a player can raise our level then we'll always be interested. We're looking forward to seeing what Daniel can bring to us."
In 2017, he played every minute of the season and won the NASL Golden Glove Award with a 0.88 goals-against average and 15 clean sheets.
"Vega's experience will certainly help us at this point of the season," said Rowdies Chairman & CEO Bill Edwards. "We always look for talented players that can help us win and he's one of them. I'm looking forward to watching him make a difference on the pitch and help us win."
Vega, a native of Cutral Có, Argentina, broke through with Nueva Chicago in the Argentine second division from 2005-2007. His play there earned him a move across Buenos Aires to South American giants River Plate. He made 76 appearances for River Plate from 2007-2012 before moving to Europe with Cyprus' Anorthosis Famagusta.
After three seasons in Cyprus, Vega moved to the United States with Miami FC, where he would prove to be one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the NASL.
