Tulsa Talons News Release
Tulsa, OK - The Tulsa Talons of the arenafootball2 League announced today that their month-long blood drive during May was a tremendous success. The Oklahoma Blood Institute and the Talons collected 635 units of blood during the drive. The Talons and the Wichita Stealth were competing to see which team could collect the most blood during the drive, and the Talons overwhelmingly won the competition with their 635 units. The blood was collected at the OBI office and at the Talons Blood Drive held on May 9th at Woodland Hills Mall. Fans donating blood received a free Talons / OBI T-Shirt and registered to win tickets to this Saturday's Talons game.
"The response from the city of Tulsa and surrounding communities has been so positive," said director of community relations Susie Weinacht. "Not only have donors saved lives, they have shown their support for the Talons in a very personal way. Our organization would like to say thank you and let everyone know how much we appreciate them!
The OBI will be at the Talons game this Saturday night against the Peoria Pirates to award them with the Blood Drive Trophy. KMYZ-104.5 "The Edge", who helped promote the month-long drive, will be doing a live remote prior to the game in the Baxter's Interurban parking lot across the street from the Tulsa Convention Center to culminate the drive. Personalities from "The Edge" will also attend the game, which starts at 7:30 on Saturday night, and participate in on-field promotions.
The Talons (8-1) are in first place in the Central Division standings and boast the National Conference's best record. The Pirates (3-5) are in second place in the Midwest Division. This Saturday's Talons - Pirates game is a re-match of the af2 season-opening game on March 28th where the Talons won 42-39. Tulsa will be trying to improved upon their af2 record 23 consecutive regular season home victories against the defending Arena Cup champs, and win their sixth game in a row this season.
Tickets for Saturday's Talons - Pirates game are available at local Drug Marts, the Tulsa Convention Center Box Office, the Talons office, or by phone at 584-2000. For more information regarding Talons' community relations, contact Weinacht at 664-4453.
