ORLANDO, Fla. (June 3, 2003) -- Orlando Predators Defensive Specialist Kenny "The Glove" McEntyre was named the Arena Football League's "Defensive Player of the Week" for his playoff performance against the New York Dragons on Sunday.
McEntyre made two huge first half plays that allowed the Predators (13-4-0) to build a 42-18 lead at halftime and eventually coast to a 69-62 win over the Dragons and advance to this Saturday's semifinal game against the Tampa Bay Storm.
With the Predators leading 15-6. McEntyre stepped in front of an Aaron Garcia pass for his 10th career post-season interception. He returned the ball to the New York 14, where Jay Gruden hit Cory Fleming on a touchdown pass two plays later to up the lead to 22-16.
With under a minute to go in the first half, lineman EJ Burt knocked the ball loose from Garcia on a sack and McEntyre recovered in the end zone for a touchdown and a 34-12 lead. For the game, McEntyre also posted five tackles.
McEntyre edged several other players out for the weekly award, including teammate Reggie Doster, who had 5.5 tackles and a pair of interceptions in the game. It was the third time this season that McEntyre was named AFL Defensive Player of the Week.
