Gallup Outlaws News Release
Gallup, NM. The Gallup McKinley County School District and the ABA Gallup Talons professional basketball team announced a partnership in education at the School Board Meeting on June 8th. Frank Chiapetti, Principal of Gallup Junior High School, formalized the agreement for the Talons to play their home games and use the gym as the team's official practice facility. The school board agreed by a 3-0 vote.
"We're excited about this relationship with the school district," said Joseph Kolb, owner of the Gallup Talons. "Our staff and players will be actively involved with the school population as substitute teachers, mentors and role models. One of the main areas of concern is substance abuse and gang involvement prevention - and we believe we can help our community."
Mr. Chiapetti added, "It's a win-win for the community. It will provide instructional support for the school and additional positives for the community."
The school has a fabulous 3000 thousand seat gymnasium and will help showcase "one of the premiere teams in the ABA." For more information, email ghsat@hotmail.com or visit www.abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
