Tampa Yankees News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - Despite periodic heavy rainfall, the Tampa Yankees (36-20) used all nine innings in a 3-2 win over the Charlotte Stone Crabs (29-29) on a soggy Sunday afternoon at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Thairo Estrada drove in all three runs with a pair of late-inning RBI singles, twice giving the Yankees a lead.

RHP Chance Adams tossed four scoreless innings before rain caused a 52-minute delay in the middle of the fourth inning. Adams scattered three hits and tallied six strikeouts. The 21-year-old tossed 37 of 49 pitches for strikes and did not allow a walk.

Charlotte starter Henry Centeno held Tampa hitless in three scoreless frames. The righty walked two and threw 22 of his 36 pitches for strikes.

The Yankees broke the scoreless tie in the sixth against RHP Ian Gibout. Jorge Mateo hit a leadoff single and stole second. A fly out to deep right field by Miguel Andujar allowed Mateo to tag up to third. One out later, Mateo scored on a base hit to right by Estrada.

RHP Angel Rincon relieved Adams after the delay and retired nine of the 10 batters he faced through three scoreless innings.

Rain picked up again in the eighth and the Stone Crabs tied the score against RHP Travis Hissong. Grant Kay and Thomas Milone hit back-to-back, one out doubles, knotting the score at 1-1.

Tampa answered against RHP Edwin Fierro (L, 2-2), as the rain died down in the home half of the eighth. Zack Zehner drew a walk and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Mateo. An infield single by Andujar and a walk by Austin Aune loaded the bases. Estrada followed with a ground ball up the middle, through the drawn-in infield, for a two-run single, giving the Yankees a 3-1 lead.

Hissong (BS, 2)(W, 2-1) returned for the ninth and Charlotte placed the tying runs into scoring position.

Cade Gotta singled and Justin Williams reached on a two-base error as Hissong fielded a roller to the mound and threw it passed first base. Hissong got a line out to first by Mac James and a pop out to second by Jace Conrad. Gotta scored on a wild pitch, but the game ended on a ground out to second by Cristian Toribio.

Estrada (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Aune (1-for-2, 2 BB) extended their hitting streaks to 10 games. Mateo (1-for-2, R, SB) tallied a pair of sacrifice bunts and his 20th stolen base.

The series finale is scheduled for Monday night at 7:00. LHP James Reeves (2-3, 4.91 ERA) is slated to make his second start for Tampa against RHP Benton Moss (2-5, 4.81 ERA) for Charlotte.

Every Monday Tampa Yankees home game, fans can enjoy 1/2 price chicken tender baskets, hot dogs, peanuts, nachos, small popcorn and regular soda from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
