Seattle, July 18, 2007 - The Seattle Thunderbirds are pleased to announce today they have hired an Athletic Trainer and Equipment Manager.

Phillip Varney joins the T-Birds as the new Athletic Trainer. Varney was previously a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Western Michigan University where he worked with the volleyball and gymnastics teams. Varney also interned as an Athletic Training Student with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League in 2004.

"I am very excited to join the T-Birds organization," said Varney. "The team has a long history that I am proud to be a part of." Jason Berger joins the T-Birds as the new Equipment Manager. Berger comes from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League where he was an Assistant Equipment Manager.

"I am really looking forward to coming to Seattle," said Berger. "I think my background and experience will be an asset to the team as we move towards winning a Memorial Cup."

"We were impressed by Phil's medical knowledge and experience," said T-Birds General Manager Russ Farwell. "He made a very positive impression during his time with the Plymouth Whalers and his direct experience with hockey at our level of play will help him here in Seattle."

"Jason comes to us from Providence of the AHL and last year worked with former Thunderbird Nate Thompson," said T-Birds Head Coach Rob Sumner. "Nate gave a very positive recommendation of Jason's abilities and also felt he would be a good fit with our team and personal. His enthusiasm is contagious and we are excited to get the season started."

T-Birds Training Camp starts August 26 at Kingsgate Ice Arena in Kirkland.

Season tickets are currently on sale for 2007-08 at KeyArena. Fans purchasing 2007-08 season tickets will have the highest seating priority for the 2008-09 season as the Thunderbirds open the new Amiga Center at Kent.
