T-Birds fall in Tri-Cities

Kennewick, WA - The Tri-City Americans defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-4 Friday night at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.

This was the first time Calvin and Chet Pickard faced each other in a WHL regular season game. Chet started in net for the Americans and Calvin came into the game in the second period.

Chet got the win stopping 39 of 43 shots and improved his record to 5-3-0-0. Calvin made 12 saves on 14 shots in two periods of action. Jacob DeSerres, who started for Seattle, was credited with the loss after making 12 saves on 16 shots.

Taylor Procyshen scored at 5:13 of the first period to give the Americans a 1-0 lead. Jason Reese and Tyler Schmidt had the assist.

Brenden Shinniman scored at 7:24 of the first to put Tri-City up 2-0. Eric Mestery had the only assist.

Reese scored a power-play goal at 14: of the first to take a 3-0 lead. Justin Feser and Jarret Toll had the assists.

The Americans went ahead 4-0 with a goal by Adam Hughesman at 19:07 of the first. Toll and Mestery had the assists.

Tri-City (7-3-0-0) outshot Seattle 16-9 in the first period.

Seattle got on the board at 5:02 of the second period on the sixth goal of the year from Prab Rai. Brenden Dillon sent the puck behind the Tri-City net from the left point. David Richard carried the puck out from behind the net and then centered it to Rai. Rai beat Chet Pickard with a backhand shot high.

The T-Birds scored 37 seconds after their first goal when Chris Cloud tipped a Steve Chaffin point shot past Chet Pickard. Jim O'Brien had the second assist on Cloud's first goal of the year.

Rai scored a power-play goal at 11:45 of the second to cut the Americans lead to one goal. David Richard had the puck in the left circle and brought the puck to high slot. Richard put a shot on goal that Chet Pickard stopped. Greg Scott got a stick on the rebound and put a shot on goal. Scott's shot rebounded to Rai to the right of the goal and Rai poked it past Chet Pickard.

Johnny Lazo scored at 18:29 of the second to give the Americas a two-goal lead back. Drew Hoff had the only assist on the goal.

The T-Birds had a 30-24 lead in shots after two periods by outshooting the Americans 21-8 in the second period.

Kruise Reddick scored an unassisted goal at 8:12 of the third period to put the Americans in front 6-3.

Seattle (2-7-0-1) scored a fourth goal in the game when Devon LeBlanc converted on the power play at 14:06 of the third. Lindsay Nielsen and Sena Acolatse had the assists.

Seattle outshot Tri-City 13-6 in the third period and 43- 30 in the game.

Seattle faces the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at KeyArena.
