Syracuse Silver Knights News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Silver Knights hit the road once again to take on the Baltimore Blast. The Blast are back-to-back winners of the Ron Newman Cup.
Syracuse looks to rebound after an overtime loss in its home opener against Ontario. Douglas Lima gave the Fury a 7-6 win in the overtime period.
Baltimore started its season with an 8-7 victory over Cedar Rapids. Vinicius Dantas recorded two goals and two assists for the Blast in the victory. This was the first game that the Blast played in its new home stadium, SECU Arena. Baltimore previously called the Royal Farms Arena home.
Here are five things to watch for during Friday's game:
1. Looking for Revenge
Syracuse played Baltimore four times last season, finishing with a 1-3 record against the Blast. The last time these two teams played, the Blast escaped the OnCenter War Memorial Arena with a 5-4 win in overtime. The loss ended Syracuse's qualification hopes for the MASL playoffs.
2. The Bosnian Leads the Charge
Slavisa Ubiparipovic has been on fire to start the season. He is tied for sixth in the MASL for points (8) and tied for fourth in the MASL for goals (5). Both totals lead the Silver Knights. Ubiparipovic has recorded at least two points in each Syracuse match this season.
3. Not on My Watch
Andrew Coughlin has been extremely effective in front of net this season. His 41 saves leads the MASL and his 69.5 save percentage is third in the MASL. Coughlin already has two games this season with at least 15 saves.
4. Attack. Attack. Attack.
Baltimore brings a lot of depth in the forward position. Six of top nine Blast goal scorers last season are listed as forwards. Each of those forwards recorded at least one point in the Blast's first game of the season against Cedar Rapids.
5. Hello Old Friend
Syracuse faces off against former Silver Knight Nelson Santana once again. The defender joined the Blast last season. Santana scored 52 goals with Syracuse and recorded 63 assists in his time with the club from 2011 to 2015. Against Cedar Rapids, Santana blocked four shots for Baltimore.
The match kicks off on Friday, November 17th at 7:35 p.m. Fans can watch the game on MASL.tv. The next home game for the Silver Knights is on December 9th, when the Florida Tropics visit the OnCenter War Memorial Arena for Star Wars Night.
