Syracuse Silver Knights News Release
SYRACUSE, New York - The Syracuse Silver Knights (1-2, Eastern Division #3) travel to the Melvindale Civic Arena Saturday to take on the Detroit Waza Flo (2-4, Eastern Division #4).
Both Syracuse and Detroit come into Friday' s match looking up at the Rochester Lancers and Baltimore Blast in the Eastern Division. The Silver Knights have lost both games they have played this season against Baltimore, 16-7 and 11-4 respectively. SSK' s lone win came late last month against the Ontario Fury 18-2.
Anthony Grant comes into the fixture in good form. The Jamaican striker has scored two goals in as many games.
"Outdoor he' s scored a bunch of goals," Head Coach Tommy Tanner said. " He' s continued it here in the indoor game. Playing against Baltimore has helped him. He just needs to hold the ball better."
The Waza Flo enters this game as losers of its last two. Detroit fell to the Lancers 16-5 last week and the Milwaukee Wave 4-0 the week before.
"(Waza Flo defender) Decu is a great player. We just have to keep an eye on him," Tanner explained. " They are very big and strong. We need to technically be better."
"It' ll come down to us getting behind the ball and keeping the same intensity. If we keep the ball on the ground, we can score some goals."
This weekend' s meeting is the first road match for the Orange, Silver and Black since the season opener when the team fell to Baltimore.
The Knights have never played against the Waza Flo in their history. The Salt City club moved from the Major Indoor Soccer League to the Major Arena Soccer League this offseason and will face a host of new teams this campaign. Syracuse' s 18-2 win over Ontario was the first match against a new team as a result of the league change.
"All of the new teams are very physical teams. We need to match their physicality," SSK' s fourth year coach said.
Saturday' s match will be broadcast live from the Melvindale Civic Arena on GoLiveSportsCast.com beginning at 7:05 p.m. EST. It will be available as on demand content after the completion of the contest.
The Silver Knights are back in the friendly confines after Saturday' s tilt. The Orange, Silver and Black play against the Harrisburg Heat Saturday, December 13, at 7:00 p.m. EST at the War Memorial.
