SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch and Upstate University Hospital are teaming up to celebrate Go Red for Women Night on Friday, Feb. 5.

Crunch fans are encouraged to show their support by wearing red when the Crunch host the Rochester Americans at 7 p.m. The American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign is a national initiative to end heart disease and stroke in women. In addition to wearing red, fans can visit Upstate nurses from the Heart and Vascular Center and the area's only Comprehensive Stroke Center at tables on the concourse to learn more about risk factors for heart disease and stroke and recognize the differences between stroke symptoms and a possible heart attack in men and women.

Heart disease is not just a man's disease. Heart disease and stroke kill one in three women, yet it is 80 percent preventable. Join the Crunch and Upstate University Hospital in raising awareness to end this killer of women. Wear your red and know the signs!

The region's largest employer with nearly 9,000 employees, Upstate Medical University is the only academic medical center in Central New York, serving the New Yorkers from Canada to Pennsylvania with its educational, clinical and research missions. Upstate University Hospital, with two campuses Downtown and Community, employ 1,907 nurses. A highlight of Upstate's leading role in the region is its ability to ensure access to vital one-of-a-kind services, such as burn and trauma care and an array of highly specialized pediatric services. In January, Upstate became the only hospital in Central New York to be certified as a comprehensive stroke center, signifying that Upstate meets the most exacting standards for treating the most complex stroke cases at any time of day.
