Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (November 3, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced Mixed Martial Arts fighters Tim Sylvia, Andreas Kraniotakes, Andrei Arlovski and Travis Fulton, who will headline Saturday night's ProElite MMA card at the i wireless Center, will weigh in for their fights during the first intermission of the Mallards' home game tomorrow night against the Dayton Gems.
The Mallards' match-up with Dayton will face off at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow evening. After taking part in the weigh in, Bettendorf resident Sylvia will sign autographs on the i wireless Center concourse during the second intermission of tomorrow night's tilt.
Sylvia, a two-time UFC heavyweight champion, will take on Kraniotakes in Saturday night's main event, while Arlovski and Fulton will square off in the other featured bout. The card will also see the debut of ProElite's Heavyweight Grand Prix, a tournament that will feature eight of the best young fighters in the world.
Red Hot Brian Scott of B100's Red Hot Brian Scott & Tony Tone will serve as master of ceremonies for tomorrow night's first intermission weigh-in. Red Hot Brian Scot & Tony Tone are heard weekdays from 5:00 to 10:00 a.m. on B100.
Tomorrow evening will also be Veterans Appreciation Night as the Mallards honor those who have served in the armed forces in what will be the Flock's final home game before Veterans Day. Tickets for Veterans Appreciation Night are available to veterans for the special discounted rate of just $5 at the i wireless Center box office. Tickets to Friday's game are available to family and friends of veterans for $9 (upper bowl) and $13 (lower bowl). All fans in attendance Friday will receive free mini United States flags.
Veterans will be honored throughout the evening, starting when veteran Lionel Marcoux performs the Star Spangled banner as his fellow veterans act as color guard. Veterans will also take part in the ceremonial pre-game puck drop. The Patriot Guard will provide a flag line prior to the game in the i wireless Center lobby and in the arena proper during the national anthem.
During the game, fans will have the opportunity to donate at the Jason's Box table on the i wireless Center concourse. Jason's Box provides physical and emotional encouragement for deployed troops by sending troops items they miss from home and, when troops come home, supports their transition from military to civilian life. The evening's 50/50 fundraiser drawing will benefit the Jr. Marine ROTC programs of Davenport North and Davenport West High Schools.
Tomorrow evening will also see the Mallards hold their annual teddy bear toss. Fans who bring a new, unwrapped stuffed animal to the game can toss it onto the ice after the Mallards' first goal. Those teddy bears will then be donated to the Quad City Festival of Trees and used to assemble the "Zoo Tree." Festival of Trees will, in turn, donate the teddy bears to children in need. The first 1,000 fans through the doors who bring stuffed animals to the game will receive free Mallards teddy bears in exchange.
Single game tickets for all Mallards regular season contests- including tomorrow night's game- are now available. Fans can contact the Mallards at (309) 277-1364 or tickets@myqcmallards.com for more information about both season and single game tickets.
