Sporting Kansas City II News Release
The Swope Park Rangers earned a 2-0 road win over Seattle Sounders FC 2 at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, Wash. on Sunday afternoon. Second-half goals from Kris Tyrpak and Mark Anthony Gonzalez saw the Rangers to their first road win since April 2.
The Rangers (5-7-2, 17 pts.) started the game on the front foot with Dane Kelly threatening twice in the opening 10 minutes. Sounders 2 (3-8-4, 13 pts.) grew into the game after that and forward Andy Craven shot over the bar twice while well placed in the SPR area.
Alex Molano, who was making his first-ever start for the Rangers, and Gonzalez both saw several efforts toward the end of the first half go begging as SPR started peppering the S2 goal, but the first half finished goalless.
The Rangers continued pressing early in the second half with Gonzalez and Kelly each going close before Tyrpak finally found the breakthrough in the 65th minute. After being found by Ualefi, Tyrpak spun away from his man, closed in on goal and fired a powerful strike into the bottom corner from just outside the area to put SPR up 1-0.
In the 88th minute, the Rangers made the points safe when substitute Johnny Grant charged down a Seattle clearance and the ball bounced favorably for Gonzalez who controlled and volleyed into the bottom corner to seal the 2-0 victory and improve SPR's road record to 2-5-2.
Man of the Match Presented by Courtyard Overland Park Metcalf
