
Switzerland Defeats U.S. National Under-18 Team in Shootout

DMITROV, Russia - The U.S. National Under-18 Team fell, 2-1, to Switzerland in its final game of the 2007 Four Nations Tournament Sunday afternoon at Dmitrov Arena. Team USA finished with a 1-2-0 record in the event.
"We didn't play with the level of intensity we needed to overcome the adversity we faced today," said John Hynes, head coach of the U.S. National Under-18 Team.
Neither team scored until the 10:41 mark of the third period when Pascal Gemperli put Switzerland on the board.
Kevin McCarey (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) tied the game up at 1-1 at 16:28 of the period off assists from David Wohlberg (South Lyon, Mich.) and Robbie Czarnik (Washington, Mich.).
After both teams were held scoreless in the third stanza and the five-minute overtime session, the game went to a shootout. Gemperli posted his second goal of the game in the third round of the shootout to secure the win for Switzerland.
The U.S. National Under-18 Team is off next weekend, and will be back in action Nov. 24-25 when it hits the road for games at Bowdoin College and Colby College. Both games are set to begin at 5:30 p.m. ET.
NOTES: Team USA went 1-2-0 at the 2007 Four Nations Tournament ... Finland and Sweden were 2-1-0, while Switzerland filed a 1-2-0 record ... Joe Cannata (Wakefield, Mass.) was in net for Team USA today ... The number of shots taken by both teams was not available at the time of this release.
