Walla Walla Sweets News Release
WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Two pitchers from the Northwest Conference signed with the Walla Walla Sweets for the team's upcoming fifth season of West Coast League baseball. The team announced today the addition of Spencer Hobson of Whitman College, and Christian Jarnagin from George Fox University.
Hobson, a junior at Whitman College, is a 6-foot, 190-pound, southpaw. A native of Black Diamond, Washington, Hobson is a three year varsity letterman and graduate of Tahoma High School, going 10-0 in league play as a high school starter. As a sophomore at Whitman, Hobson went 4-2 over 55.2 innings of play, notching a 2.26 ERA for the Missionaries.
"Spencer pitched well for Whitman last season as a starter," offered Sweets manager J.C. Biagi. "He's really matured over the past couple of years and will be a great addition to the team."
Jarnagin, a freshman at George Fox, is a native of Mill Creek, Washington and a graduate of Glacier Peak High School. A 6-foot 2-inch, 175 pound right-handed pitcher, Jarnagin played for Chaffey Baseball in the summer of 2013, and was named Wesco 3A South All-League honorable mention.
"Christian had a good high school career and is progressing at a rapid pace," said Sweets pitching coach Mark Michaud. "He has the potential to be a solid starter for George Fox and I look forward to having him on the staff this summer."
Whitman College will open their season on the road on February 1, and will play at home for the first time on March 1 at Borleske Stadium. George Fox will open their season in Arizona on February 7. Future teammates, Hobson and Jarnagin will face off at Borleske Stadium on March 22 and 23 when the Bruins visit the Missionaries. The Sweets' Opening Day, presented by Northwestern Mutual, is set for June 5, 2014 at Borleske Stadium. Ticket packages are available for purchase online, at the Sweets Shoppe in downtown Walla Walla, and by calling 509.522.BALL (2255). Single game tickets go on sale April 1, 2014.
