May 23, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Walla Walla, WA - After a successful 5-year run of raising more than $25,000 for cancer patients and treatment, the Walla Walla Sweets and Providence St. Mary Regional Medical Center in partnership with the Providence St. Mary Foundation, will shift focus to the other side of the family: dad and prostate cancer. The team will celebrate "Bold and Blue" when they take on the Bellingham Bells on Father's Day, June 19, 2016 at 5:05 PM.
"We've had fantastic support from the community with our Pink nights," said Sweets general manager Katie Biagi. "With a home game landing on Father's Day this season, we are excited to show dad a little love with Bold and Blue."
The team will wear custom jerseys, caps and swing baby blue bats - all of which will be available for a silent auction during the game. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Providence St. Mary Foundation, a key component of cancer care for the region at the Regional Medical Center. In addition, the Sweets coaching staff will wear white shirts and ties for the game to draw attention and raise awareness to the fundraiser, and Providence will be on-site providing information to receive a free screening for eligible men. Manager Frank Mutz, who is within the target age and demographic range required for screening, has agreed to have a prostate exam experience broadcast through YouTube to help de-mystify the experience.
"Frank is really looking forward to that experience," noted Biagi. "Education and de-mystification are important steps to help more men feel comfortable having their prostate checked."
The first 1000 fans in attendance will receive custom blue t-shirts, and with Sunday games, the team will have photo booths and bouncy houses for the whole family to enjoy the afternoon. Post-game, fans will be invited to come out on the field and play catch with dad to wrap up a perfect Father's Day celebration.
The team also will offer a special ticket package that will include the following for $50/package:
- (2) tickets
- (2) sodas
- (2) hot dogs
- Batting Practice participation with the team pre-game
Half the revenues generated from this special package will be given to the Foundation as part of the fundraising effort. This package will be limited to (25) plans on a first-come, first-serve basis.
"I hope we sell so many that our team can't hit," said team president Zachary Fraser.
For more information on the event or to secure the package, please contact Dan Ferguson at the Sweets Shoppe.
