Walla Walla Sweets News Release
WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Walla Walla Sweets, in partnership with Walla Walla Community College are excited once again work with local elementary schools on the Sweets Leadership Program. The program, started in 2013, is a community program for 4th and 5th grade elementary school students, and will launch in schools this week.
The Sweets Leadership Program is a motivational tool for fourth and fifth grade teachers in the Walla Walla Public School System. One student will be chosen from each of the fourth and fifth grade classes as an official Sweets leader. That student will receive an official Sweets Leadership certificate and hat, four tickets to the Walla Walla Sweets game on June 7, and will get to attend a special field day event before the game. Sweets Leadership winners will also be presented with a number of unique opportunities during the game, including the chance to throw out the "first onion," the chance to perform a live on air interview with the official Sweets play-by-play announcer, and be chosen to announce their favorite players over the PA during an inning.
"Leadership is a key attribute that we look for in players," said Sweets team president Zachary Fraser. "We look forward to the opportunity to work with teachers in our community to recognize, support, and create memories for the future leaders of Walla Walla."
In addition to providing teachers with motivational tools and incentives, team representatives will be involved in launching the program. Over the next three weeks Sweets president Zachary Fraser, Sweets general manager Katie Biagi, and 2015 Sweets pitcher Cameron Richman will be visiting elementary schools and talking to the fourth and fifth grade classes about leadership and how everyone can impact his or her community in a positive way.
