Walla Walla Sweets News Release

WALLA WALLA, Wash - The Walla Walla Sweets (3-3) lost the final game in the series 5-4 due to a furious comeback by the Kelowna Falcons (5-1). The win gave the Falcons a three game sweep on the road.

Kelowna struck first in the first inning after Joseph Sheperd (Murray State) tripled and scored on a RBI ground-out.

The Sweets scored one in the second when Brandon Williams (UC Riverside) scored on a balk. Leif Strom (Pierce College), the pitcher, was ejected from the game for arguing the call.

Walla Walla took the lead in the third inning on Patrick Chung's (Gonzaga) RBI sacrifice bunt. They extended that lead in the fourth on RBIs by Clayten Ayers (Georgia College and State) and Austin Kopacz (Briar Cliff).

The Sweets had a 4-1 lead into the seventh, but let up four runs in that frame to the Falcons and ended up losing by a score of 5-4.

Garrett Atkinson (Whitman) got the loss for the Sweets and Riley Moore (Mt. Hood) picked up the win, throwing six shutout innings in relief.

The Sweets head out on the road after a day off to face the Cowlitz Black Bears on Saturday, Sunday and Monday before heading up to Wenatchee for a three game set.
