Walla Walla Sweets News Release

BREMERTON, Wa. - After clinching a series victory with two wins against the Kitsap Bluejackets, the Walla Walla Sweets finished the job Sunday, completing a three-game sweep with a 6-2 win over the Bluejackets at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds.

For the first two innings, the Sweets' Dillon Dove and the Bluejackets' Jerome Byndloss swapped zeroes. Walla Walla broke the scoreless tie in the top of the 3rd inning, when Mike Paulson led off with a base hit, later scoring on an RBI single by Sean Bouchard.

The Bluejackets immediately tied the game in the bottom half, when Blake Valley knocked Daniel Woodrow home with a single. However, it would be the only run they would score all afternoon against Dove.

Meanwhile, the Sweets hammered away to score at least one run over the next four innings. Mike Paulson's 4th-inning RBI groundout plated Ryan Littlefield to give the Sweets a 2-1 lead, Aldo Ferrante hit an RBI single in the 5th, Kyle Nixon hit another RBI single in the 6th, and Mikey Duarte and John Skrbec drove home a run each by the same means in the 7th to stretch the lead to 6-1.

Eight of the nine players in the Sweets' lineup recorded at least one hit, with Paulson, Nixon and Cooper Hummel leading the way with three hits each.

Byndloss (0-5) took the loss after allowing two runs on three and a thirds innings of work. Four Kitsap relievers- Thomas Casey, David Marshall, Tyler Gartner and Sam Sheehan- surrendered a combined four runs on nine hits over the final five and two-thirds innings.

In his final appearance of the summer, Dove (2-3) was superb. The left-hander from the College of Southern Idaho scattered seven hits over eight innings, walking two and striking out five while allowing just the lone third-inning run.

"Dove was fantastic today," said Sweets manager J.C. Biagi. "He commanded the zone all day and threw his off speed for strikes. We couldn't have asked for anymore from him in his final outing."

Alex Fisher entered for the 9th inning and promptly loaded the bases for Kitsap, allowing two singles and a walk. Biagi then summoned Cody Carroll from the bullpen, who proceeded to allow a run to score on a double play grounder before getting Jeffrey Bohling to ground out to second, giving the Sweets the 6-2 win.

"The morale has been great all year," said Biagi. "These guys come out and fight for it every night, up or down in a game, it doesn't matter. Our goal all along has been to work hard and improve, and we all have. We'll see what happens as we finish up."

The Sweets (24-24) will take their final off-day of the season Monday before beginning a three-game series against the Victoria Harbourcats, beginning at 7:05 PM Tuesday at Borleske Stadium in Walla Walla. The series represents the Sweets' final three home contests of the season.
