Walla Walla Sweets News Release

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Bears are fans of the Sweets, as the Walla Walla club announced the signing of two more players Thursday morning. Coming from Waco, Texas, the Sweets signed two Baylor Bears for this summer, Cody Moos and Kai Gomez.

Moos, a 6-foot 1-inch, 170 lb. left-handed pitcher, is arriving on campus from Castroville, Texas. While pitching for Medina Valley High School, he went 8-2 with a 0.62 ERA and recorded 101 strikeouts to 49 walks in 62 innings during his junior campaign. The 2014 Perfect Game All-American Honorable Mention selection will be spending his first season in the WCL with the Sweets.

"Moos has a plus fastball 88-90 with an outstanding change-up," Sweets' manager Frank Mutz said. "He will have every opportunity to get quality and meaningful innings for Baylor this year."

Gomez, a 5-foot 8-inch, 150 lb. second baseman, enters his first season with the Bears out of Agoura Hills, CA. During his senior season at San Fernando High School, he hit .489 with a home run, five doubles, eight RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 17 games. This will also be the first season in the WCL for Gomez.

"Kai runs extremely well and could be counted on to lead off for the Sweets this summer," Mutz said. "With Kai's speed and his ability to put the ball in play he will give the Sweets a boost at the top or bottom of the lineup."

The Sweets, entering the club's seventh season as a member of the WCL, will open up the 2016 campaign at historic Borleske Stadium on Friday, June 3. With the schedule having been released on October 27, 2015 the team is experiencing its best preseason ticket sales period since the 2011 season.
