Walla Walla Sweets News Release
WALLA WALLA, Wash - After the Walla Walla Sweets welcomed back Cal State Monterey Bay Otter Myles Hager back for the 2016 season, they announced the addition of two more players from CSMB on Thursday morning. The club is excited to bring Nick Vigo and Hayden Duer into Walla Walla for the summer.
Nick Vigo, a 5-foot 10-inch, 200-pound left-handed pitcher and outfielder, finished up his sophomore season with the College of the Canyons last spring and will be a transfer junior at CSMB this season. From Simi Valley, CA, he hit .261 with three home runs and 17 RBIs in 37 games for the College of the Canyons. Though he did not pitch for the Cougars, he will factor in on the mound and in the field for the Sweets this summer.
"Nick is a very talented athlete who will be a two way player for the CSMB Otters and Walla Walla Sweets," Sweets' manager Frank Mutz said. "Nick will primarily be used a as swing guy who can spot start, set up, and close games. In addition to his ability to pitch, Nick is an outstanding outfielder. With his arm strength and speed he can be used in any outfield position."
Hayden Duer, a 6-foot 3-inch, 205-pound catcher, came to CSMB from Davis, CA. He found a lot of success in his catching role for the Otters as he hit .320 with three home runs and 15 RBIs in 21 games with 13 starts. He will factor into the catching rotation for the Sweets which figures to have extensive offensive potential.
"Hayden is a very offensive catcher with an above average arm," Mutz said. "Hayden will bring wealth of experience and leadership to the Sweets clubhouse and pitching staff. He has a great understanding of calling games and running a defense. I look forward to having three catchers with talent and experience this coming summer."
The Walla Walla Sweets will open the 2016 season of WCL baseball in June of 2016. Season tickets are on sale now. For more information about these and other ticketing options visit wallawallasweets.com, stop by the Sweets Shoppe in downtown Walla Walla, or call 509.522.BALL (2255).
