
Swarm Stings Wings In Home Opener

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Philadelphia Wings (2-1) dropped their home opener to the Minnesota Swarm by a score of 13-10 at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA. The Wings are back on the road in their next game action against the San Jose Stealth on Saturday, January 21 at HP Pavilion.
"We had a weak first half that we weren't able to recover from," said Wings' General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "We can't let a game like this affect our confidence level and will have to get back on track for San Jose next week. "
Wings rookie Luke Wiles had a quick goal just :33 into the game, but Minnesota scored three straight. The Wings scored two more in the first quarter, which was answered by six straight Swarm goals. Goaltender Matt Roik was pulled with 1:05 left in the first half and replaced by Erik Miller. The Wings outscored the Swarm in the second half 7-5, but the Swarm held on to stay on top by three.
Leading the Wings in scoring were Dan Marohl with seven points (2G, 5A), Sean Greenhalgh with four points (2G, 2A), Jake Bergey with four points (1G, 3A), Keith Cromwell and Luke Wiles with three points (1G, 2A), Mark Morley and Jeff Ratcliffe with two points (1G, 1A), and Peter Jacobs with one goal each. Goaltender Matt Roik had nine saves on the night while Erik Miller had 17.
Leading Minnesota in scoring were Jamie Taylor with six points (1G, 5A), Kasey Beirnes with five points (2G, 3A), Chad Culp with five goals (1G, 4A), Kelly Hall with four points (3G, 1A), Sean Pollock and Daniel Berthiaume with three points (1G, 2A), Brock Boyle, Mark Miyashita, Eric Pacey, and Ryan Ward all with one goal. Goaltender Nick Patterson had 45 saves.
