Knighthawks to hold auctions, fundraisers for Casey Zaph
January 14, 2006 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks announced their plans today to assist defenseman Casey Zaph in his fight to recover from a brain injury he suffered last summer. The team will conduct jersey raffles at all eight home games during the 2006 National Lacrosse League season to help Casey and his family cope with rising medical costs. The Knighthawks will also hold a special jersey auction on January 28th and a major fundraiser on March 18th.
Casey Zaph played defense for the Rochester Knighthawks from 1999-2005 and was a fan favorite because of his spirit and hard-nosed effort every night. On June 7th, he was hospitalized after collapsing at his doctor's office, while experiencing headaches. The 30-year-old husband, and father of two, is now recovering from bleeding on the brain and has begun physical therapy.
The fundraising efforts begin today, as the Knighthawks -- with the assistance of the K-Hawks Krew -- raffle off a game-worn jersey. Rochester Knighthawks (0-1) play their home opener tonight against the National Lacrosse League defending champion Toronto Rock at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.
On Saturday, January 28th, the organization will auction off two special purple jerseys, as part of the team's silent jersey auction to raise money for Continuing Developmental Services. The proceeds from the sale of a No. 33 Tim Soudan jersey and the No. 27 Casey Zaph sweater will go to Casey and his wife, Sandi. The jerseys were produced locally by jerseyconnection.com.
The biggest event of the season is scheduled for Saturday, March 18th. During the game against the Buffalo Bandits, the K-Hawks will hold a silent auction of merchandise from around the National Lacrosse League. Fans can also meet former Rochester players and other lacrosse legends at the game at a halftime autograph session. Following the contest, the Knighthawks will hold a "Rally for Casey" at the Clarion Riverside Hotel. The event will include food, drinks and commemorative raffle items. Call the Knighthawks ticket department for details to purchase tickets at (585) 454-5335.
