MARTINSVILLE, Va. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs fell to the Martinsville Mustangs 6-1 in a tough contest Monday night at Hooker Field.
The Mustangs got things started quickly with a run in the first against Anders DeShields (Soph./Limestone), scoring a run, and would tack on four more in the second against both DeShields and Jacob Shumate (Soph./Francis Marion).
The SwampDogs would get on the board in the fourth when Branden Boggetto (Jr./Southeast Missouri) collected a one out single, stole a base and came around to score two batters later on a Demetrius Webb (Fr./Indiana) single. Boggetto would finish the night with two hits, his third-consecutive multi-hit game.
Sky Overton (Soph./Furman) had a four-hit day for the SwampDogs.
The winning pitcher was Reggie Johnson, who improved his record to 2-0 on the season. DeShields got tagged with the loss, falling to 0-1.
