Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs dropped their contest to the Edenton Steamers Thursday night, 6-0 at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

Steamers starter Gunner Kines was simply on top of his game, not allowing a hit through five innings, striking out four, and only allowing one baserunner when he plunked Norm Donkin (Delaware) in the second inning. Kines needed only 45 pitches on the night. He was removed from the game by Bryan Hill for undisclosed reasons, although Kines has been battling a sore elbow.

Jordy Farthing (Mount Olive) also pitched well for the SwampDogs, going six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits while walking one and striking out four. Nick Hartman (LSU Eunice) would pitch two innings for the Dogs allowing one run on two hits while striking out three, but Hasten Freeman (Arkansas - Fort Smith) would allow a three run homerun in the ninth inning to Aaron Wright which put the game out of reach for the Dogs.

Josh Roeder would come in in the ninth inning and allow basehits to Michael Bozarth (Saint Louis) and Jason Blum (Southeast Missouri State), but work out of the jam to seal the victory.

Blum's hit extended his reached base streak to 21 games, and a seventh inning single by Lane Paul (Murray State College) extended his reached base streak to 34 games.

Farthing (2-4) took the loss for the SwampDogs, and Kines (6-1) was the winner. The SwampDogs complete the home-and-home series tomorrow as they travel to Edenton before returning home Saturday to face the Wilmington Sharks. For tickets call 426-5900.
