SwampDogs Rally Late to Down Sharks
July 29, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilmington Sharks News Release
After mounting a comeback a night ago, it was Wilmington Sharks' (30-18, 14-7) turn to lose the lead on Friday night, as the Fayetteville Swampdogs (8-13, 17-31) came back to beat the Sharks by a score of 5-2.
Alec Bohm's (Wichita State) sacrifice fly gave the Sharks an early lead in the first, but the Swampdogs responded to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Wilmington took the lead back off of Mark Donadio's (Fordham) RBI single in the third. That 2-1 score held until the sixth inning.
Fayetteville tied the game at two on a sacrifice fly, but would go on to take the lead in the seventh with a three run rally. The Sharks managed just two hits over the last three innings, and couldn't respond.
The win went to Pat McGinn (1-0). He threw six innings, with five hits, no runs, one walk and three strikeouts. Ethan Wortkoetter (3-2) took the loss, pitching two innings, allowing four runs, on three hits, two walks and one strikeout.
The Sharks will get two off days this weekend. They'll be back at home for the final week of the regular season with three home games beginning on Monday.
