LACONIA, NH - The Keene SwampBats (19-13) hit three home runs and won for the eighth time in nine games with an 8-5 victory over the Winnipesaukee Muskrats (8-23) on Saturday night at Robbie Mills Park in Laconia.
Trailing 7-5, Winnipesaukee had runners at first and second with nobody out in the eighth, but RHP Erik Kaiser (Vanderbilt) got a pair of strikeouts and a groundout to get out of the jam.
Kaiser (2.0 IP, H, 2 BB, 4 K) got the final six outs to notch his second save of the year.
Lorenzo Hampton (Florida International), Cordell Dunn Jr. (Grayson College) and Nick Romano (St. John's River) homered in the game for the SwampBats. The home run was Hampton's second, Dunn Jr.'s fourth and Romano's second.
Hampton delivered the big blow with a three-run shot as part of a four-run first inning that gave Keene an early 4-0 lead. Romano knocked in the other run in the frame with an RBI single.
The SwampBats stretched the lead to 6-0 with a pair of runs in the second as Rudy Aguilar (St. John's) led off with a triple and scored when Jacob Koos (Stetson) reached on a fielder's choice. Koos scored later in the frame on a throwing error charged to Muskrats SS Reagan Teegarden (Virginia Tech).
Dakota Mulcay (Southern New Hampshire) delivered a two-run single as part of a three-run second for Winnipesaukee and brought the hosts within 6-3.
Dunn Jr.'s solo shot in the top of the fifth extended the Bats' lead to 7-3.
Winnipesaukee starter Michael Chang (Fu Jen Catholic) allowed seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits while walking one and fanning five over 6.2 IP. Chang was dealt the loss and falls to 4-1.
SwampBats starter Ian Exposito (St. Thomas) gave up three runs on three hits to go along with four walks and three strikeouts over 4.0 IP in a no-decision. RHP Andrew Houde (Keene State-2.0 IP, 4 H, R, ER, BB, 4 K) and RHP Heibert Romero (Southeastern-1.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, BB) combined to set the stage for Kaiser and Houde earned the win to improve to 3-0.
The Muskrats drew within a pair at 7-5 with solo runs in both the sixth and seventh including an RBI single from Mason Calloway (Savannah State).
Dunn Jr. (2-5, HR, RBI, R), Shamir Morales (Broward-2-3) and Romano (2-5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) all had multi-hit games for manager Lyndon Coleman's squad.
The SwampBats are off on Sunday and will return to action when they head to Sanford to battle the Mainers with first pitch from Goodall Park set for 6:30.
