Swamp Bats Plummet in 3-1 Loss to Mainers

June 26, 2015 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Keene Swamp Bats News Release

The Swamp Bats lost 3-1 to the division rival Sanford Mainers for their second straight loss to drop to 4-14 on the year.

The early innings of the game seemed to be another pitcher's duel for Keene. John Leiter was nearly perfect through four innings, retiring 10 of his 11 batters faced with two outs in the fourth. However, Sanford got things going started off with a Dalton Thomas RBI double. Sanford would score three runs in the 4th inning.

The Mainers won with their pitching throughout the game led by Joey Abraham. He was nearly flawless pitching seven innings and only allowing one hit and one walk. Cody Dube would come in for relief afterwards.

Leiter would be pulled after the 5th inning allowing three earned runs on four hits. Andrew Ryan would come in for relief and not allow any runs when he was on the mound.

The Swamp Bats struggled offensively throughout the game. After an Anthony Brocato double in the 1st inning, they would not have a single hit after six innings.

Keene would have a spark in the 8th and score their first run in the top of the 8th inning when Mike Geannelis would pinch hit and get an RBI single with the bases loaded. That would be the only Swamp Bats run on the night. The Swamp Bats would have six hits total on the evening.

The Swamp Bats batters struck out 10 times on the evening and increase their NECBL leading strikeouts at 146.

Keene will be back on the road Saturday against Laconia at 6:30 P.M.
